Help with Taxi Policies in Naples

Greetings, fellow travelers. We will be in Sorrento for one week in late March. We very much would like to attend the opera at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples for an evening performance. My question is related to taxi policies in Naples. The opera begins at 8:00 pm and will likely end around 11:30 pm, give or take. Train, bus, and ferry services will have ended for the evening and the only means of returning to Sorrento will be taxi. Will we be able to just flag a taxi outside the opera for a one-way trip to Sorrento, or will we need to make a reservation ahead of time for a taxi? We are less concerned with the fare and more concerned with the mechanics of doing this and the policies of the taxis in Naples to make sure we actually have a way to get back to Sorrento. Any thoughts or ideas? Grazie,

If you're not worried about price and want peace of mind, why not hire a private driver to meet you at the opera house and take you back? We used Ugo at www.sorrentocars.com for several transfers and found him to be very reliable and personable. He charged us 80 euro for transfers between Naples and Sorrento last year. I don't know if a late night transfer would cost more.

If you do use the taxi option, print out their flat rates for various destinations . The driver quoted us a much higher fee until we showed him the correct rate.

Wow! Thanks for the prompt responses. I will be looking into a car service. It will take the worry out of a great evening of dinner and opera. Great recommendation!

We recently returned from our wonderful trip to Italy. I wanted to thank Bud Gusto for his recommendation of Ugo at www.sorrentocars.com As advertised, he was very reliable, personable, and accommodating. We arranged for him to pick us up from the Naples opera house (a great experience and highly recommended for the architecture of the opera house if nothing else) and take us back to Sorrento. Ugo was waiting for us at the main entrance/exit from the opera with a sign with our name on it, it could not have been easier--we also had his mobile number in case of any issues. Even though it was a midnight pickup from the opera, Ugo charged us only 80 Euros (prepaid on a very easy and understandable link on his website). We did tip an additional 10 Euro for his exceptional service. I heartedly recommend his services to anyone needing airport or regional transfers or other car-booking services.
