Two senior women will be staying in Assisi for three nights, and would like to take an excursion to Perugia and Deruta. I have contacted one person, and he wanted 250 euro to do the trip in one day. This didn't include any tour services. Just dropping us off and then picking us up, taking us from point to point. I thought that was a little pricey given the distance between the cities. I know that there is train and bus service, but would like to have some guide services. Any suggestions out there, and have you done this?? We will be traveling to Italy for 23 days in July and have some time to complete this plan. Thanks everyone for all of your help in the past, you rock!
I would encourage you to do it on your own. You don't need a guide for Deruta. There's only one thing there, pottery. All the shops are located on one long street. If you're going to buy, go there second, unless you want to pay for shipping. Perugia is also easy to do without a guide. It's pretty compact, and there's plenty of information available about the sights. PM me if you want to know more about either town. We've spent a lot of time in that area.
You can easily take the local bus down from Assisi to the train station. There is easy train access to Perugia and Deruta. Perugia is about 25 minutes by train and Deruta is close to 40 minutes. You most likely will have to change trains to get to Deruta.
