My husband and I are going to Italy at the end of the month. We struggled with flights so we just booked a round trip from Rome. Adding another leg doubled the price of our flights.
We want to visit Rome, Florence, & the amalfi coast and hope to do some day trips. We will be in Italy for 11 days.
Can you help with direction and best places to see.
Assuming 11 days means 10 nights? If you really have 12 nights (11 full days), add a night each to Florence and Sorrento.
Arriving Rome in the morning (I hope) go immediately to Florence/Firenze. Stay 3 nights. Then take the train to Naples/Napoli and bus, ferry or train to Sorrento for 3 nights. Finally, transfer to Roma for your final 4 nights and fly out.
Do you have the Rick Steves' Italy Guide book? He lays out day trips, transportation, etc., very well.
Thank you, I just ordered his book.
I agree with Laurel, to save backtracking go to Firenze, then to the Amalfi Coast, and end in Roma. Fewer moves and less packing/unpacking.
Look at a direct trains from Firenze to Salerno, then bus or ferry to Amalfi Coast. Faster than Firenze to Napoli, then commuter train to Sorrento, then bus or ferry to Amalfi Coast.
