Hi all. I’m currently on a train from Varenna to Milan that’s running over an hour late, which will cause me to miss my fast train from Milan to Venice. Can someone tell me if I should order a new ticket for later or if there’s another process since it was due to a Trenitalia delay? I’m trying not to worry, but it’s not working so well. Thank you!

Talk to the staff onboard. But since it's not your fault, you do not need to buy a new ticket (assuming you bought Varenna to Venice as a single ticket).

Well that turned into quite an adventure. I guess because they were so late, they just made us all get off at a different station before reaching Milan. A lovely young lady near me saw my worry and told me to follow her, so I did. We went another few stops, then got off and she showed me how to use the metro and told me how many stops to go before getting off. Turns out I had free changes in my train ticket, so I just did that. I’m now sitting on a train getting ready to leave for Venice. The people here really are so kind and helpful. Whew!

Oh, and it was such mad panic of the masses that it would have been almost impossible to find a staff person.
