Help With Itinerary With 12-Month-Old

We are flying into Nice, France in September and departing from Rome in October. My husband and I have a 12-Month-Old and I'd like to have a reasonable itinerary. Would the following be "overdoing it" ? Here are the timeframes I am suggesting (all input is welcome):

4 days Nice and environs, 4 days Provence (Pont-du-Gard, Avignon, Arles and ?), 4 days Italian Riviera, 4 days Sardegna. I must note that I'm having a bit of a challenge w/finding ferries and/or flights (reasonable times and pricing) to/from Sardegna. Should we cut out Italian Riviera and spend more time in Sardegna? We depart around 06-October from Rome. Thank you!

Lynne, I agree with the previous poster. I travelled with a 12 mo. old baby to Italy and it does add a lot of stress (and joy too) to the trip. Since the traveling part is, under normal circumstances, tiring and possibly stressful, I think you'll be happier the less you have to do it. My brother and his wife went to France with their one year old and have absolutely no desire to travel abroad again until she is much older! They found it much too stressful. I'd probably pick my two favorite places as bases and just do day trips from those.

Personally, packing and unpacking every 4 days with a small child is not my idea of a vacation. I would cut out 2 or 3 of you locations and stay longer in the others. It will be much less stress on all of you.

I've been to all these areas except Sardegna. With the amount of time you have for travel (even without a little one), I would have suggested spending it in Provence with a few days on the French Riviera OR five days in Rome with the rest on the Italian Riviera. In Provence you can enjoy everything in a rental car...slow paced....take the train to Nice to enjoy the coast. In Rome you can walk the entire city with the stroller....slowly and enjoyably. Your time in Cinque Terre would be just as relaxing for the two of you and your baby. Make your trip slow-paced, beautiful, peaceful and you will enjoy France or Italy at its best.
