Help with how to get to Montalcino

Help, have spent way to much on travel arrangements and NEED ya'all. I am arriving at Firenze at 11:45 and need to get to Montalcino as I have a class the following day. Should I:

  1. go to Siena or Buoncovento and then a bus? Seems challenging.

  2. Take the 114 bus (if that is correct) and can someone give me the link or ap to purchase the tickets? Maybe take a bus from Firenze or the other two places?

  3. Find a tour or driver that will pick me up from train station in Firenze and maybe stop at a winery on the way.

I don't mind traveling with others and want some Rick Steve's advice :)
Thanks in advance for the help :)

No advice on bus travel as we always rent a car in that region

A private driver will be expensive but here are 2 options to check

Mydaytrip.com

We have used the first and were very pleased, using again next month
They are not just an airport transfer service

Rent a car at the FLR airport and drive to Montalcino. Hopefully you won't be too jet lagged. It's about 2 hours from the moment you drive out of the rental car center at the airport.

Any other option (Bus/train to Siena then private driver/taxi) is too convoluted and also expensive. The train to Buonconvento plus the bus would require a lot of planets to align for you to get there.

You will need a car while in Montalcino, anyhow. It's a small village with minimal public transportation service. A car is a must in place like that.

The bus company is Autolinne Toscane.it in Italian only.

From Firenze by bus to Montalcino is 3H07m.
Looks like 3 transfers. 131R-125-54A-114.

1:30 PMFlorence Bus Station
131R towards Siena-Via Tozzi
2:43 PM
2:46 PMVia Fiorentina
125 towards Autostazione [6]
2:50 PMAutostazione [6

Walk
200 ft (1 minute)
3:15 PMAutostazione [2]
54A towards Via Pascoli
4:06 PM
4:21 PMVia Pascoli
114 towards Montalcino
4:36 PMMontalcino Fortezza

I’d see if your host has a better idea.
Edit: agree with Roberto, it’s a very easy drive.

Florence to Montalcino by bus or a combination of train and bus will require a number of transfers. Check Google maps. Your decision may be impacted by how long you intend to stay in Montalcino and where you intend to go next.
When we did Tuscany after Torino-Aosta-Cinque Terra-Lucca-Siena by train & bus, we rented a car in Siena and returned it in Siena staying there for a few nights before taking a train to Florence for a couple of nights & Turin for flight home. Our Tuscan trip was Siena-Volterra-San Gimignano-Montalcino-Montapulciano-Siena with about 2 nights in each and I decided that public transport was not comfortable and would waste a lot of time. So we rented a car.

Thank you.....all of you for the response. It is a special class I am attending there or I possibly would deter it and go somewhere else. I wish it was easier. Hmmm
Thanks again....no wonder it was difficult

I agree with Roberto on renting a car. This is the only area that I will be renting a car for my trip next month. Public transportation is just not a good option in this region. That said, it’s well worth the visit! This will be my 8th time to Montalcino and I never tire of it.
