I am headed from Rome to Gubbio for a few days and then have 3 days to fill before flying out from Milan.
I am looking for suggestions of where to spend these 3 days, but am also trying to avoid a very long train ride back to Milan on the final day. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Spend the 3 days in Milan, or Stresa on Lake Maggiore, depending on whether you prefer a big city or a more relaxing lake environment. From Stresa to the Malpensa airport takes about 1 hr by bus. From the city it takes a little less (by train).
Bologna? It will take 4h 30m to get from Fossato Di Vico-Gubbio to Bologna’s central train station and requires one transfer. From Bologna to Malpensa airport takes 2h 30m and also requires a connection.
The train from Milan takes 6h 15m and requires a transfer. You will lose a day trying to get there in a day.
