Just received Rick Steves book, Europe Through the Back Door and on page 298 there are directions on signing up for free public Wi-Fi in Europe. We're going to Italy next week and want to register. When I entered the web address given by Rick, (www.freeitaliawifi.it) the page on the internet no longer exists! I tried entering it in the search bar on my browser and it led me nowhere! There were a number of links, but whenever I opened any of those up, the web just "kept spinning". Please help if one knows where to find this information!
Thanks!
Janet
Most hotels in Europe have free wifi. On my last trip to Italy 2 years ago I had no trouble with wifi until my last stop, Milan! That hotel didn't give breakfast, either. I probably won't stay at that place again.
Not only hotels, but many municipalities have wifi available. The TI office can help.
Yes, I know most hotels and some restaurants have free Wi-Fi. But I am referring to my previous post before about the specific website Rick Steves mentions in his book. This way I can get free Wi-Fi on the road or away from hotels and restaurants. Is there an updated website to go to? Thx.
I'm viewing www.freeitaliawifi.it right now. It's in Italian, but I am viewing it with Google Chrome, which will translate the site into English upon request.
This recent thread here also talks about it:

Local SIM cards are cheap in Italy, pretty easy these days to get internet "on the road" pretty much everywhere without needing to rely on WiFi everywhere.
