Help with Europcar location in Chiusi for October 2019

I have a car booked with Europcar in Chiusi through AutoEurope. The Europcar location looks like it’s a 10 minute walk from the train station and some reviews have said there isn’t sidewalk all the way there. Our train from Rome arrives at 12:08, Europcar closes at 13:00. I’m thinking it would be best to take a taxi to the rental location but didn’t know if a driver would take us that short of a distance. There will be two of us with luggage. The Hertz location is closer to the train station so I could change to that, but they close for lunch at 12:30. AutoEurope no longer brokers for Hertz in Orvieto which was my first choice.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

I haven’t been to the train station in Chiusi but my first thought was one person goes to get rental car and other stays at train station with luggage.

We just rented a car in Chiusi last month, from Aesse. They are right across the street from the train station and they stay open until 1:00 pm. Lovely car, lovely staff. Their parking lot with the cars is behind their building, after you sign up. I recommend them.

Consider getting the highest level of insurance, called the Platinum level. It came in handy when we unknowingly scratched the lower side of the car parking in one of the many towns. We had to pay zero deductible instead of a few hundred euros.

Thanks BethFL. Since we will both be driving the car I thought we both would have to be at the rental office to show our International Driver's Licenses. Thanks for the suggestion.

The taxi cannot refuse service as it’s a public service licensed by the city. Of course the price will be high considering the distance. If your luggage has wheels and you are comfortable walking less than 1/2 mile on flat terrain, the entire route has sidewalks at least based on what I can see in Google streetview.

We’ve never had to show our IDP at car rental office but they will want to see your US drivers license so be sure you both have that handy.

(We’ve never had to show IDP anywhere yet but we do still always get one)

Thanks Roberto for the reply. I saw the sidewalk too in Google Earth but I had read on another website people said there weren't sidewalks the entire way. Our luggage has wheels and walking 1/2 mile isn't a problem, I was concerned about the time we have to get to the rental office.

Hi Christine. I've always carried the IDP as well and never had to show it when renting a car, just my license and credit card. I was told by AutoEurope that it is now required by Italian law for non-EU drivers license, and that if we get stopped and do not have it the rental car can be taken from us. Again I wasn't sure if both of us have to show identification to rent the car or not. Just thought I'd be on the safe side and have us both at the rental office.

FWIW, we had to show both our IDPs and our local (US state) drivers licenses in order to rent the car last month in Chiusi at Aesse.
