Help with Emilia Romagna. Staying Near Modena...

Hello folks, due to some unforeseen circumstances my family (2 Adults middle aged - 2 small children 7 and 4) gets to be in Emilia Romagna at the end of November (when the rain has just stopped historicall). We are only there for 6 days (7 if you count the final night - we fly out early in the morning the next day).

Some background. I'm a very seasoned Italian traveler. I usually rent a car and travel through the backroads of Tuscany, Umbria, Puglia, Sicilia, etc. I tend to eschew large cities as I have seen the main ones already (the holy trinity R-F-V, Napoli, Bologna, Milano, Catania, etc etc) but don't mind going to them if warrented. I adore medieval villages and agriturismi.

Any, my itinerary looks like:

Day 1: Parma - Duomo, Baptistry, Theater etc
Day 2: Food tour and small towns: Balsamic, Lambrusco
Day 3: Modena (with Parmigiano tour at 4 Madonne)
Day 4: Ravenna or Bologna. I need your HELP! I have seen Bologna. wasn't my favorite. Kind of reminded me of a larger, flatter perugia for some reason, but I'm willing to give it a second chance. The best food I've had in Italy has been there. But the mosaics of Ravenna, which I have never seen but only studied have been beckoning for decades. Bologna is a 45 minute drive, Ravenna is 1:20 minutes. It makes a difference when you have small kids!
Day 5: Maserati Factory Tour (unlike the other major car manufacturers, Maserati actually lets you see the cars being built) and Verona
Day 6: Lago di Garda - Colombare (with the hot springs).
Day 7: More Verona before heading to Milano to fly out.

It's obviously not the best time of year, but it's how the dice rolled.

My big quesion is... do I give Bologna another chance? I was there for 1 day last time from Florence or do I see Ravenna?

I need your help travelistas!

Just to clarify. We will be staying in Modena, so Verona is only an hours drive. Then the train is 2 hours from Verona to Milano. i'm flying into milan anyway, so the initial drive from Milano to the agriturismo is 2 hours, which is why we are stopping in Parma that first morning. Thanks for letting me know the theater is only open in the morning. I hope we can make it as our plan arrives at 9:25. I assume I won't get on the road until 10:30.

I just noticed that most places refer to Colombare as Sirmione. Opps!

That's where the hot springs are. Terme di Sirmione allows children 30 months and up. Fortunately for us, all of our kids are above that age. There is also the remains of a roman Villa there, right by the water, I'm sure the kids will get a kick out of seeing something 2K years old.

The reason we are stopping in Verona is simply because it is a pretty town with substantial sites. The Roman Amphitheater, of course is there, but there is also a nice view from the castello san pietro, the bridges, palaces, and it seems like a lovely place to have a passeggiata in the evening.

Thanks again!

Well I researched Fontanellato previously, and it is a pretty castle. I was going to stop there. But I figured, if I can see Parma, why not just do it. I just checked the hours and it looks like the Farnese Theater is open all day, and so is the Baptistry and Duomo. So I think we will actually be okay!

As far as the Car, I am dropping it off in Verona. On our last night I'm taking a direct train to milan and then the airport express train to the airport where I will take an uber to the Hotel for the night. We leave on a 9:25 AM flight, so I will have to leave the hotel at around 6, unfortunately.

What's funny about this entire trip is a family reunion in the midwest was cancelled (I'm east coast). So we were given a flight credit via capitalone venture X. Well. The only flight we could take that was the same price was milan! I'd say that's a bit of an upgrade.

While I love Bologna go to Ravenna! I go there at least once a year. As mentioned... Castelvetro is a nice small town (balsamico, lambrusco) and my town of Vignola is a few miles from Castelvetro. The main piazza in Castelvetro is quite unique with the chessboard square and Vignola has the Rocca and ancient castle as well as the famous torta Barozzi the chocoalte cake that was mentioned.
