Will be in Bologna Italy at the end of April and I am looking for some suggesitons or things to see and do. Does anyone know how close/far Cinque Terre is from Bologna, can I take a train there from Bologna? Any other suggestions of day trips via train would also be appreciated. Thanks for your help :-)
A day trip to the CT is not advised. Way too far. And a day trip to the CT is really not a good idea. You cannot see much of the 5 towns in just one day..you need 2 days, one night minimum to really enjoy the area.
We took the following day trips from Bologna: Verona, Ravenna, and Modena. All these by train.
Would add Padua and Venice isn't too far.
Thanks for the suggestions. Keep em coming!
really enjoyed visiting Parma. Wasn't so crazy about Modena.
We loved being in Bologna and all the places available for day trips...Ferrara, Reggio Emilia, Parma, Faenza, Ravenna and places in between. We also were captivated by Bologna the museums, art, and music events. You should have a wonderful trip.

I would strongly consider Lago di Garda(lake garda)area. It's breathtaking. It is close to Verona and has a pretty good immitation of a Disney World park called Gardaland.Check it out at:www.lagodigarda.it.I would skip Reggio Emilia for Mantova. It's more of medieval city that looks like a big castle from distance. We liked it more.
thanks to all. Still looking for more...

We really liked Mantua/Mantova. Beautiful setting, surrounded on three sides by a lake and lovely medieval town centre. About 1.5 hrs by train from Bologna.
