help with a short trip from Rome please!?!?!?

Ciao a tutti

I will be in Rome with three friends as part of an Italy trip from June 1 - June 6. We would like to take a short, day-and-a-half trip from Rome to a location nearby.

We are students traveling on somewhat of a budget, so we'd prefer not to spend more than 40 EURO/person per night.

We don't want to travel further North than Siena, and not further South than Sorrento. We have considered these locations along with Civita di Bagnoregio, Assisi, and Civitavecchia.

We are leaning towards Sorrento, so any ideas on specific accommodations are preferred, however personal recommendations from our list or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Grazie mille!

Overall, it depepnds on what you are looking for and what you are looking to do. If you think you may be coming back to Italy in the near future, then you might want to save Sorrento for your next trip, just because there are other locations around Sorrento like the Amalfi coast, Pompeii, and Capri that are also worth a visit and, overall, worth more than a day and a half.

But if some coast and sunshine (along with some limoncello) is what you're looking for, Sorrento would be fine. It's got a good hostel, which you would probably need to book in advance for this time of year.

If you're more interested in art/churches and hilltowns, then I would recommend Orvieto with a quick sidetrip to Civita di Bagnoregio or Assisi, which also has low priced accommodations.

Have fun!

Siena is a charming town and you will certainly enjoy it, but if you are looking for more action head south to the Campania area. But don't stop at Sorrento, head a littler further south to the Amalfi coast area. I stayed in Pasitano for a bit and loved it (hotel bougainville). A good hotel in Sorrento is the Ulisse Hostel.

Since you have such a short amount of time, stay in Sorrento because you can get there easily and quickly by train. You can tour the Amalfi coast, Pompeii et al easily from there.
