Okay, so just when I thought I had it all figured out...not so much. Traveling to Italy for the first time and taking the train from Rome to Naples then onto Sorrento via the circumvesuviana. I now see that the train offers a stop at not just Naploli Centrale but Afrogola. Is this the same station? If not, does the Afrogola have a connecting service to the Circumvesuviana so I can get to Sorrento. I'm so confused.
NO -- You take the train to Centrale, turn left, and walk down the stairs to the the Circum... Follow the signs. Buy a ticket. Get on. Technically speaking the Circum.. is at a different train station BUT it all looks the same and it is all connected but it is walk of maybe a hundred yards.
You must fill out »Napoli Centrale« on the train planner. That gives you the trains to the Central Station, which you need.
You want Napoli Centrale if you're catching the Circumvesuviana. Its station (Garibaldi) is connected to that one.
(Oops, sorry for the redundancy but I'm a slow typist!)
Okay thank you, is there no train from Afragola to Sorrento?
It is the Casoria-Afragola station BUT you want to go to NAPIOLI CENTRALE station and this is the beginning point for the Circum....... The Circum.... is a private commuter line between Centrale and Sorrento with some stops along the way - including two stops for Pompeii..
.. is there no train from Afragola to Sorrento?
Not to Sorrento, no. You want to go to Napoli Centrale.
Editing to add: you will not see schedules for the Circumvesuviana on the Trenitalia or Italo websites as it's a private line.

Buy your tickets to Sorrento when you get to Centrale: they're cheap. As I mentioned in your previous post on 03/02/18, the Circ. operates like regionale trains (no seat or carriage assignments) so tickets must be validated before boarding.
Okay, thank you all so much!
