I have been trying to call the number Rick lists to reserve tickets to the Accademia and Uffizi. I've tried at different times of the day for over a week. It's either busy or rings without anyone picking it up. Has anyone had any success with this number? I know Rick suggests having your hoteler call and book them for you, but my husband and I will be camping, so I have to book them for myself. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
I suspect that Rick's suggestion to have the hotel do it for you pre-dates the ability to do it yourself, which is much easier. And, you know it's done exactly as you want.
Do it yourself, online.
Kristen, I second Leslie H's response. We did it online at the link she posted and got our confirmation in about 30 hours. Good Luck
Kristen,
I have been trying for the last 2 weeks and received a constant busy signal. But I called on Monday at 8:30am Italian time (6 hours ahead of U.S)and was able to get through on my first attempt. So my suggestion call immediately at 8:30am their time! The ticket office opens at 8:30am not 9! Good luck and don't get discouraged!
I believe that the number in Rick's book is wrong. I don't have the correct number handy, but do a search above and you should find it. It's very easy to call, but check your international phone rates. I paid $27 for the phone call!
I don't meant to beat a proverbial dead horse, but, given how easy it is to do it yourself, I have to wonder why anyone would call instead. It's not a matter of being computer savvy, obviously, since everyone here is.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess ...
Thanks to all who responded...I had to try a few times online (kept getting strange error message), but I believe I booked tickets. I'm still waiting for my confirmation e-mail, but I hear that might take a few days.
How soon did you all get your confirmations?
I'm sorry, but I don't recall how long it took to get my e-mail confirmation. I made our reservation a couple of months ago. But, I am pretty sure that it wasn't instantaneous.
Good luck!
You can also google the above places and a ticket broker can book them for a fee. You pretty much pay the same fee if you go through your hotel. We stayed at a hotel near the Duomo and paid the same fee as going through the broker. He is the link. http://www.tickitaly.com/tickets/accademia-ticket-booking.php
When I tried the phone number listed on the Uffizi website I couldn't get through either. But this number was listed here in another posting and it worked like a charm and both Accademia and Uffizi reservations got done in 4 minutes flat:

You get your reservation number right away. If you do online booking I believe it's done through a different agency (?) for which you pay an additional fee. The plain reservation fee was 4 Euro/ticket for us. Also: the reservation site did not let me book 6 tickets at once which was no problem when I reserved on the phone.
I called at 6am yesterday, was on the phone for less than 5 minutes and booked both for mid june. It was much cheaper than booking online.
The operator picked up quickly, I asked in Italian if she spoke English, and we were set in no time.
I believe Kent said the number in the book was incorrect?
Calling yourself is no less expensive than booking on-line, as long as you use the official website, not booking agencies.
All: here's the link to the correct # for reserving Uffizi and other Florence museums: Uffizi #Note: Reserve Uffizi in advance, the limited time slots are going fast for the summer.
