Help! Rome Hostel Closed!

I'm leaving on Saturday for Florence for a week, and my friends and I reserved beds in a hostel in Rome for New Years Eve. We all have fairly early Saturday morning flights out of Rome and don't have time to get from Florence to Rome on New Years Day. I found out tonight through online sleuthing that our hostel in Rome, the Rome Student House, may or may not have closed without notifying anyone. They don't have a website, we booked through hostelworld at the end of November. Reviews for the place were generally decent, and we basically needed a place to crash for a few hours after midnight. The problem of course is that if the hostel has closed, beds at this point in Rome are practically non-existent. Or, the booking requires three or four nights. I'm calling the TI listed in Rick's book tomorrow to try and get some information, but does anyone have an advice on a place to stay in Rome on New Years? At this point I'm not picky, it can be far out from the center if necessary. My friend thinks it would be fun to just stay up all night, but I'd rather have a place to sleep, even for a few hours!

Have you tried looking at venere.com? You might be able to find a cheap hotel outside the city for the night. It won't be as cheap as a hostel but if a few of you go in together you should be able to afford it. Look in the termini area or outside the city. donna

Linnae, I'd suggest having a look at This Hostel. It's modern, very well run and an easy 7-8 minute walk from Termini. There's a Bar on the main floor and internet facilities. An Elevator was being installed when I was there in June, so it's probably in operation now. A four-bed dorm is a good compromise between price and privacy, and each room has a bathroom and Lockers. They also have a Downtown location, however I've never stayed at that property, but assume it's about the same as the Palace location. There are some good restaurants in the neighborhood, including some which provide a discount for Hostel guests. One that I dined at this year is just around the corner, and it was incredibly busy to the point where the Servers were literally running! I did a brief check and it appears that the Hostel is open over New Year's, however I didn't check to see if there were any vacancies. I suspect they will have room in one or the other of their properties. Good luck and happy travels!
