Help planning a day in Florence.

We are staying a few blocks above the Marcarto for 2 nights. Arriving in Florence and will probably be out walking by 3pm, or so.
So limited time on day number one, followed by a full day.

Thinking of visiting the Uffizi, Accademia, the Duomo complex, and the Bargello.

The Accedemia is close to our apartment, so we were thinking of visiting there on day one,
followed by RS's walking tour.

Will we have time to do the other 3 Museums on the following full day? And, any suggestions
on sequence and best times to visit these 3?

what time of year will you be there? Crowds are huge in the summer months and still pretty heavy during spring and fall shoulder seasons. I understand that the advance booking / skip the line sytems are complex and confusing, but to the extent that you can buy ahead you should be able to save some of the wait time.

Visiting 3 world-class museums on one day means you will only scratch the surface, even if you do get to skip the line. I would recommend carving out some time to simply walk around and enjoy Florence with its architecture, its cityscapes, and its ambience.

If you just want a good look at the David, going there on Day 1 is good idea. Honestly, there is so much to see in Florence, I would save my energy by just focusing on the David at the Accademia.

After the Accademia, you could probably fit in the Bargello. The Bargello was one of my favorite museums in Florence - not too crowded and really great art.

If you do the Accademia and Bargello on Day 1, you will only have two museums to cover on Day 2.

If you are in Florence on a Tuesday or Wednesday, June through September, the Uffizi is open until 9:50 pm; this could help you spread out your museum visits. Be sure to allow enough time for the Duomo complex; the Museum is very well-presented! We walked right in to the Bargello (in July): for the other sites on your list you will want to purchase tickets in advance. As mentioned previously, build in some time to just wander and enjoy the city!

I will say definitely no, you don't have time to do the Uffizi, Duomo complex and Bargello in one day so you'll need to be selective about what you want to see and save the rest for another time. Also be aware that to skip very long lines, you need to purchase tickets in advance for some of these attractions or use a Firenze Card. The Accademia and Uffizi are closed on Mondays, and the Bargello on the 2nd and 4th Sunday and the 1st, 3rd and 5th Monday of every month.

We will be in Florence in Mid October, on a Friday and Saturday. Hoping Saturday is not an especially busy day at the museums.

It is going to be tough seeing all 4 museums on your trip. I don’t know about October, but when I was in Florence in mid-June, saw the Uffizi and Accademia on Saturday and it was crowded.

  • On Friday, you can see the Accademia and focus on David. If you want a nice introduction to Florence in the evening, you may want to consider a food tour. We did that on the Friday night that we arrived in Florence and we loved it. We took the Florence Sunset Tour from Eating Italy: https://www.eatingeurope.com/florence-food-tours/florence-sunset-food-tour/. You start at an amazing cheese shop, then make some classic Florentine cocktails, and then some of the best food we had in Italy.
  • On Saturday, I recommend you get the first tickets for the Uffizi 8:15, need to line up to pick up about 8:00. RS has an excellent audio tour, stop for a caffe at the rooftop terrace restaurant. You will be out of Uffizi about 10:00-10:15. You can then head over the the Duomo. The Duomo museum is excellent (we spent about 2.5 hours it was that good). It will be challenging to climb the dome, see the musuem, and the church. So I would choose the museum and the church and climb if you have time. We did not have time on our trip to see the Bargello, so I can’t help with how much time that will require.

Hope this helps,
Sandy

We are planning to tour the Duomo Museum, have a coffee, the Cathedral and the Cript, and then the Bapistry.
Any idea as to how much time we should plan for this? We then need to make a reservation for the climb and
time estimate would help. Thanks

First off, did you purchase the Duomo tickets in advance from this site?

If so, you should have made your dome reservations at the same time and not wait until you get to Florence. Maybe you didn't intend to do that but I'm not sure what you meant by, "We then need to make a reservation..." Whatever the case, you can still do it online with the barcodes from your previously ordered tickets.

How long allow for the complex? Not sure what to tell you there as the queue for the cathedral could mean a longish wait - you cannot skip that line with tickets - and you may spend less time at the various parts than I did. I'd say 4 + hours or so - not including the dome climb - although some folks have banged through it in less.
