Help - Orvieto and Ercolano (Herculaneum) secure parking?

Help - headed to Orvieto in the morning (Sat, market day) en route to Sorrento. Plan for approx 4 hours with light bite for lunch. Now very worried about leaving luggage in the van since you can see through the windows. Have heard car could be broken into. We'll take passports and money but cannot take computers etc (which are inside a duffle bag). Any suggestions for a secure parking lot???

On the way back to Rome, we plan to visit Herculaneum and apparently leaving our stuff is more risky here than Orvieto? Hate to make one of our party stay with the cars just to protect... Thanks for any advice!!!

Yes, things could happen...not worth the risk..seek parking lot that is guarded...
Not sure about Orvieto...secure parking... but found this

Herculaneum is a very rough and tumble ( poor) town, they can be a bit rude and plucky with tourists..but the site itself is amazing!

I found this

We park at the police station about 2 blocks from the old but still open (as of Winter 09) entrance with the large "Herculaneum" archway. From the autostrada, exit at Ercolano, follow signs for "scavi" and continue downhill towards the water. The police station is about two blocks to the left from that old main entrance (1.5-2E/hour); you make a quick left turn to enter the station. To reach the new entrance with large parking lot, stay on the main road after you pass the old archway entrance, and take the first right I believe. Blue "P" signs will lead you to the new parking lot beside the redesigned entrance and ticket office (also 1.5-2E/hour).

I don't think the parking is what I'd call secure in Orvieto. Always a risk.
