Help needed deciding on where to stay on Lake Como

My family and I ( 3 adult children in their 20's ) are planning to rent a villa on Lake Como next spring. There is a beautiful villa in Sala Comacino directly on the water and another in Bergamo up from the lake, but with a beautiful lake front view. I am concerned about staying in Sala Comacino as it appears to be a quiet town with not much night life. Bergamo seems to have more to offer in that way, but we would be giving up the lakeside location. Any thoughts? Is it easy to get from town to town using a water taxi if the ferry isnt running? Would we be able to get to Bergamo at night easily? Ive tried looking at the ferry schedule and its a bit hard to decipher. I wonder if there are land taxi's or water taxi's readily available to take us around at night or if thats not feasible.

Sala Comacina is on the lake, but I'm not really sure if you have the correct name of the other town because Bergamo is nowhere close enough yo have a lake view, therefore please check the location.
The entire Lake Como is rather quiet as they are mostly small quaint villages. There are bigger cities at the tips of the southern branches (Como and Lecco) but I think the more beautiful part of the lake is the mid lake area. The bigger villages in the mid-lake are Bellagio, Menaggio, Varenna. But they aren't metropolises either.

You are so correct. I meant Bellagio. Do you think it might be better to stay in a bigger town like Bellagio
Or does it not really matter.
Thank you!

Laura,
The villages around Lake Como are mostly quiet & it's a great place for R&R.

Your adult children may be interested in going on some hikes, renting a kayak (or taking a kayak tour) or going swimming.

If you decide to stay in Bellagio, you can take the ferry to other nearby villages ( Varenna, Menaggio, Tremezzo, Lenno)

I'm not aware of water taxis but there are land taxis available.

You can check ferry schedules here: http://www.navlaghi.it/eng/c_illago.html

Have a wonderful trip!

As I said, Menaggio, Bellagio and Varenna are bigger, but they'd are still quaint small villages. If your children have Miami Beach or Las Vegas in mind, they will be disappointed. Bellagio is the most famous town in the area but the only thing in common with Las Vegas is the name of a Hotel.

Do a Google Image search and see what it looks like.

Good choice Laura. Bellagio is our favorite spot on the lake. :-)
