Hi,
We are looking for a reasonable hotel for our stay in Florence and then for our stay in Rome. We would like it to be centrally located and good service. Please help!!!
For Rome, we like the location of Hotel Smeraldo (Campo de Firoi) but there are many different opinions on this board about the best location for Rome.
You can search this site for other recommendations--Kent's Helpline Search Info
I'd also check "Trip Advisor" for recommendations and reviews!
If you find Smeraldo to be booked or want another option, try Albergo Santa Chiara, a three star right by the pantheon.
Thanks. I appreciate it!
Loved Hotel Lancelot in Rome near the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine Hill. Price was reasonable for Rome, had a/c and elevator, great neighborhood, and excellent staff. They do have a website.
Bob, check out venere.com; you will get location, prices, and reviews.
In Florence Il Villino, www.residenzailvillino.com
In Rome Nicolas Inn, www.nicolasinn.com
For your consideration Bob:
In Florence: Hotel Il Bargelino

In Rome: Hotel Italia

Hi Bob,
Just another vote for Smeraldo in Rome--great location and reasonable price. And we have also used the website venere.com with great success. In Florence, we've stayed in a B&B called Residenza Giotto (Rick Steves recommended) that is housed in an old palace-turned apartment building right off the central square. You can almost touch the baptistry from their rooftop terrace.
Happy travels!
I stayed at the Residenza Il Villino in Florence this past May and it was wonderful. It is one of the recommended hotels in Rick Steves guidebooks. Sergio and Elizabetta are the most gracious hosts. It is in a good central location. I paid $90 Euro a night. The rooms are spacious, free internet/PC, very good breakfasts, and of course like I said Sergio and Elizabetta are wonderful hosts. I stayed at the Aberdeen in Rome, and while it was okay and the location was very good I don't think I would recommend it to anyone. I had a single room with one twin bed and barely had room to move around. I'm sure a double room is bigger. There just wasn't anything special about the Aberdeen.
Wholeheartedly agree with Nicolas Inn in Rome, although it's really a B&B and not a hotel (but far more charming than a hotel with wonderful, English-speaking hosts). Read the reviews on Tripadvisor - #2 rated out of more than 1000 B&B's in Rome.
We stayed at the Hotel Baileys. Very close to everything and about a 5 minute walk to the Piazza della Republica.
It was a nice hotel and the staff were really accomodating and helpful. Even let my friend use their internet access for free for an hour so he could look up some train details, etc.Breakfast was included in the price as well!
:-)
Can't say enough good things about Hotel Madrid in Rome. www.hotelmadridroma.com . Excellent location, spotless rooms, great breakfast, friendly staff.
www.hotelmodigliani.com . My husband and I have stayed there twice. Small hotel, just off Piazza Barberini(Metro stop right there, very handy). The rooms are a bit small as they are everywhere in Europe , but they were clean, well maintained, ensuite, and if we get back to Rome I will definitely try to stay here again. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and gracious. I think the rates are toward the low end of midrange(at least as of 2 years ago they were)...and I'd say that by Italy standards this is at least a 3 star. Check their website above and good luck. Rome is spectacular.
Bob, I just returned in June from 13 days in Florence and stayed at the Hotel Atheneaum on Via Cavour. The hotel was very nicely appointed, had excellent service including a restaurant and bar with exceptional knowledgable staff (that was really the key to the difference there). The hotel was a short walk from San Marco and El Duomo-close enough to be easy to get to and yet not so close as to be disruptively noisy at night. Most all staff spoke English. Website is www.hotelatheneaumflorence.com.
I would strongly recommend Hotel Dali in Florence, especially room 7. The room is huge, the rates are good, it is quite and overlooks a courtyard and has a private bath. The is another room, slightly smaller that also overlooks the courtyard and has a private bath as well, I can't remember if it is 1 or 2. Marco and Samanta are amazingly helpful and the location is 2 blocks from the Duomo - can see it from the hotel. Grocery store 1.5 blocks away as well. Check out the Friends of the Uffizi pass as well to see the best museums.
We just stayed in Rome at the Alamandi B&B- in Ricksbook. We had the apartment. Great staff and right across the street from the Vatican entrance.
In Florence we stayed at II Bargello. Near Bargello Museum and EASY walking to all the sites. Gabriella was wonderful with deliciously breakfast. Use of laptop in the common room made it easy to schedule final details of our trip. It is on the third floor with MANY steps to climb. Also check reviews on tripadvisor.
