Help navigating train problems from Varenna to Bolzano

Looking for a suggestion. We are currently in Varenna and the trains are not leaving from here now. Not sure of the most efficient way to get from here to Bolzano and then into the Dolomites. Was planning on the train when we left home but now not possible. We had to take the train to lairna and then a ferry to get here from Milano.

Have you been able to find out why the trains are not running? Usually buses are out on routes that are having technical problems or blocked tracks.

When do you need to leave and what is your final destination in the Dolomites, a very large area?

You mean there are no ferries between Varenna and Como? Or that trains from Como to Milan are also blocked?

If so, you can either rent a car and drive to Bolzano, or hire a private driver to Milano Centrale or take one of the overcrowded substitute buses. With luggage, I'd leave the latter option to locals.

why the trains are not running?

A landslide has interrupted the railway line.

Heard that the rail line from Lecco to Varenna was blocked by a landslide a few days ago.

This note is on the Trenord site:

WARNING
The Milan-Lecco-Sondrio-Tirano railway line remains closed between Lierna and Bellano due to a landslide that occurred on Friday, May 19th.
Connections to and from Milan/Valtellina are made with bus transfers from the stations of Lecco and Colico. Trains will continue to serve the coastal locations up to Lierna (from the south) and Bellano (from the north). For local mobility between Lierna, Varenna, and Bellano, connections via lake with boats have been established.
