Help me get to the Dolomites!

Hi everybody. I’m heading to the Dolomites in 3 weeks and need some clarification. We land in Venice and go directly to the Dolomites by public transport. I think we take a bus from the airport to Maestre and take the train from there to Bolzano. Then a bus to Ortisei. Am I correct? Any tips I should know to make things easier? Thanks so much for your help.

I did this in the opposite direction, but yes. Bus 15 (30 min) has no changes airport to Mestre and leaves from right in front of arrivals.

From Venice Mestre, you would have one train change - at Verona Porto Nuevo. In Bolzano, it’s a 5-10 min walk to the bus station. I used the südtirolmobil app to buy a ticket (don’t validate till you are ready to board the bus). Bus 350 for about an hour to Ortesei but it goes further.

It may have been complete fluke, but supposedly there was a bus strike the day we arrived and the bus we (and lots of others) had planned on didn’t come, making the next bus very full. Same with leaving Ortesei several days later - one scheduled bus didn’t arrive so the next one was packed. Fortunately timing didn’t make us miss anything.

Thanks so much. It helps to sure what the next step is when arriving after a long tiring flight. Any tips from your Ortisei experience?
