Help, Stevies! The Trentalia website is either 1) down or 2) keeps fluctuating fares so after several attempts, I am giving up. How best to...1) get a ticket from Florence to Varenna- Esino? If I buy a ticket for Florence - St. M to Milano Centrale, is it easy to just hop on a local at M- Centrale up to Varenna without a reservation? How? We will be in Florence Monday - would it be easier to just go to the train station and purchase a ticket or will I be stuck paying for a higher class of seat? Thank!

It's simpler than that. No reason to pre purchase. It's too late for discounts. The morning you leave Florence, go to the station. Buy a ticket from Firenze SMN to Varenna. The ticket agent (or the vending machine, if you want to avoid the line at the ticket window) will give you all you need. Go to the platform and board the first train to Milano. At Milano you will switch to another train to Varenna.
