Help! last minute trip to amalfi/puglia

hello we are flying into rome with my two teen girls and my old mamma (originally from naples years ago)
we would like to take them to Amalfi coast area for scenic visit but know it is very busy in july..we are only there from the 2nd of july and fly out on the morning of the 10th from rome.

I need helping planning an itinerary that includes The AC side for a few days and then the girls want some light blue water say in salento area for a few days...
My mum is elderly but spry but I want a town where we can stay that she has access to a town center with old world cafes and activity while kids may want to go to the beach etc...
its hard to find loging now ..but Im having a hard time deciding how many days here and there...
sorrento or salento as base
train rides to puglia...
am i trying to do too much?

am i trying to do too much?

Probably.

Where and when on the 2nd do you arrive?

Where in Puglia are you wanting to go?

It looks like you have 6 days to really tour.

On 9 July you will spend the greater part of the day getting to Rome for your flight on the 10th.

Arrival on the 2nd will be a jet lag/ recovery day and getting from airport to your lodging.
That leaves you the 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,. 8 for 'vacation'.

we arrive in rome at 8 am on the 2nd...leave from rome at 7.30 am on the 10th.
I have tried to find a hotel in sorrento to no avail. It seems everything is booked.
I am open to almost anything at this point that can offer a traditional beautiful italian town with lodging amidst things for mamma...and the chance for girls to swim in a blue blue sea and see some sites...
I am a terrible planner and had no idea everything would be so booked so any help would be so appreciated.
I would have loved the chance for a quick tour of the AC and then elsewhere...

Amalfi Coast requires no car, harder to do that in Puglia. Try www.booking.com for general Sorrento area including adjacent towns such as Vico Equense. Use Google Maps to ID adjacent towns on the train line. Even Salerno is possible. It is going to be expensive!

If you cannot get into a place you like, maybe another beach town like Santa Severa or Sperlonga. Very small but great beaches, cute towns. Here a car may be an asset as well.

I was in Gallipoli today. It is about 45 minutes away from Lecce on the eastern coast of Puglia. I haver never seen such clear water in my life and the beach, while small, looks good.

Wandering around town I heard practically no English. Almost everyone, even the tourists, were Italian. Plenty of little restaurants and cafes. Not sure about hotels.

But expect it to be busy in July. Expect all of Italy to be busy in July.

I'm going to Otranto tomorrow which is on the Adriatic. I can let you know how that is.

What a valuable forum THANK you all so much for the help...
so right now we will go to sorrento from rome...spend three nights there (with a tour of the AC towns) then we leave to go to puglia region for four nights before flying back to rome to leave.
That being said...
Can you suggest what towns would be best in that short time? I have a few in mind (polignano di mare, ortranto, and some beautiful day trips to pretty beaches like Torre Monza...)
but I tend to get too ambitious so am looking for wise minds to reel me in..we can always do a puglia tour of some kind.
but where should we base ourselves since we will fly out of salento airport.
Any suggestions SOOOOO appreciated...if you think Gallipoli would be a good base we could go there...
