RS book says children under 18 are allowed to skip the lines with a parent who has a Firenze Card, but still must pay the $4 "reservation fee". Anyone have any recent personal experience/success with this arrangement? Concerned that my daughter will not be able the enter the Firenze Card entrances with me... Also - conflicting info about Firenze Card accepted in Duomo - any personal experience?
I used firenze card a few years ago. A minor will be "tacked" on to the parent's card. This will be done at the ticket booth in Florence where you buy the card. Simply take your child with you when you go to an attraction. Show your firenze card at the ticket "stand" and a child ticket will be issued at no charge. I don't recall ever paying a fee for my daughter. Your child will enter the same entrances as you - with you. As far as duomo goes - go to walkway on the north side of the baptistery first. Have your back to the baptistery. Look across the walkway to until you see a sign that says "biglietteria" which means ticket stand. Go to the sign and walk down a short "alley" to the ticket stand. Present your firenze card. Duomo complex tickets will be issued to you and your child. You have two days to see everything on the tickets once you activate them by attending the first duomo site. Use them one time on the last day of your Firenze card and you can add an extra day of sightseeing beyond your Firenze card. Also, activate your firenze card around 10 am or so. It's good for 72 hours once activated. On day 4, you can use it to enter one last attraction before 10 am. Feel free to ask more questions.
Karen, it is confusing as the Firenze Card FAQs do state that 4-euro fees are applied to the children of card holders at the Uffizi and Accademia (and small fees could apply elsewhere).

"For people under 18 years of age who are not European Union citizens and/or not members of the same immediate family of the Firenzecard holder, they can: 1) buy a Firenzecard 2) enter the museums through the priority access with their parents who are Firenzecard holders. After that: - collect the free ticket to visit the civic museums (Palazzo Vecchio, Cappella Brancacci, Museo Bardini, etc.) directly at the Firenzecard entrances; - collect the free ticket and buy a reservation to visit the state museums – that are paid directly at the Firenzecard reserved access entrances (price € 4.00 for the Uffizi Gallery and € 4.00 for the Accademia Gallery); - collect the free ticket/purchase a reduced/full ticket to visit the other museums, according to the various museum admission rules."
The deal is, that fee is not always enforced. As Rick says:
"However, at the Uffizi and Accademia, to skip the lines with their Firenze Card holding parents, children still must (technically) pay the €4 "reservation fee" (which can be paid on the spot — no need to reserve ahead). However, in practice, enforcement of this policy seems to vary."
So I'd just plan on having some euros on you to pay the fee if requested. Yes, your daughter will be allowed to enter with you, no worries. If she is a teen old enough to for her age to be questioned, be sure to have her passport on you as proof.
All kids under 18 not just EU members are admitted free to these venues so you aren't buying anything special with the Firenze card. If you had no tickets and bought the on the spot, the kids would still be free.
