Help- Hotel suggestions Sorrento please?

Would SO appreciate anyone's thoughts/suggestions re hotel options for us to check out!
4 couples travelling 18 days together by car last week May 2017
- average age mid 70's.

Busy itinerary through Tuscany etc. including 1 week villa. Amalfi coast last 3 nights.

Have van hired for full day Amalfi tour but 1 person is truly motion sick so won't even attempt it.
2 others say "no" because they're concerned it's too much uphill walking.

Am searching for the perfect hotel to end our trip where those 3 can enjoy the Amalfi coast's magnificent views from their balcony daily and enjoy Sorrento while we're on the tour. Ideally, the hotel would offer:

  • Spectacular Amalfi coast views from room balcony
  • Definitely want good - but price is a consideration - looking for best value for a gorgeous hotel (aren't we all?!)
  • Well positioned to walk into main Sorrento locations & Capri ferry?
  • Good restaurant/bar with view
  • Air conditioning a must
  • Secure parking at or near the hotel
  • Breakfast included and wifi available
  • Pool

This may be our last trip to Italy which is such a sad thought - so want to make sure our Amalfi stop is spectacular.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Hotel Antiche Mura.
Via Fuorimura, 7, 80067 Sorrento NA, Italy

Center of town. Great morning breakfast. Best coffee I've ever had.

Has everything you want but the balcony views as it's in the center of town, not on the cliff.

So that you're not disappointed... Views from Sorrento are of the Bay of the Naples and Mt. Vesuvius, not of the Amalfi Coast. The AC is on the other side of the peninsula. The views are teally spectacular though..
The ferries come in down at the marina, a steep walk. Shuttle buses and taxis will take you to and from the marina area. I believe the Vittorio Excelsior has a elevator down to the marina.
Look at hotels along the cliff edge for water views. Vittorio Excelsior is one and also has excellent dining options.Bellevue Syrene and Hotel Ambasciatori alao have a cliff edge views.
You are right in town and it is basically flat, set on rop of cliff. There are many others that fit your description.
Make sure to have dinner Ristorante Defino down at fishing marina( not ferry marina) Take a shuttle bus or taxi there. Incredible seafood.

Imperial Hotel Tramontano is another hotel that meets your Sorrento requirements.
Rereading your post. You have a villa on the Amalfi Coast but also need a hotel in Sorrento. How are your friends going to travel to the Amalfi Coast villa if they think they'll get car sick? I didn't think the drive was bad at all.

dh,

One hotel you might have a look at is ll Nido which is located slightly above Sorrento. They offer frequent Shuttle bus service to town, so the location is not really much of a problem.

You could also have a look at Hotel Desiree which is a bit older but very comfortable. It's at one end of town but not really a difficult walk. It's located right next door to La Tonnarella which is more posh.

Il Nido would meet a lot of your needs. Great views of the bay from rooms (by request) as well as from their wonderful restaurant. Breakfast included and it has a machine to freshly squeeze oranges for the best juice ever. It's family run and the staff is wonderful. You can't walk to town, but their hotel shuttle will run you back and forth. We have very good memories of this hotel.

We stayed at Hotel Bel Air and it checks off mostly everything you requested.

The main issue as I see it, is the best views like at Hotel Bel Air are from above town and built into the cliffs.
This means you have a good uphill walk from Sorrento the town itself and where the Capri ferry is located.
Anything closer you may have a good view but won't have as good a view.

Hotel Bel Air is worth looking into other than closeness to town and ferry it meets your other criteria very well.
The distance from town and ferry is easily still walkable for us just a pain with luggage and I fear if your group has mobility issues the walk may be too much for them to want to leave the hotel's property. Taxis are excessively pricey in Sorrento.
The room balcony views, hotels grounds and pool are spectacular but I don't believe outdoor pools are not heated in Italy so could be too cold to actually use the pool in May.
At this hotel they have free parking on site, actually right above your rooms. The ground floor / road level is the parking lot. You take an elevator down into the cliff to reach the lobby and rooms, quite a site and experience!

As mentioned above the views from Sorrento are amazing but are of the Bay of Naples not Amalfi Coast.

dh,

You might consider adding your location to your Profile (as many of us have). It makes it easier in some cases to provide more detailed replies.
