Help finding Italian train schedules

Planning to be in Italy in December. Will train from Venice to Milan to Florence to Rome. Can't solve finding train schedules on Treinitalia site. Any suggestions?

Did you click on the little British flag for English? Did you use the Italian names for those cities? Venezia, Milano, Firenze, Roma?

Here's the link for the Trenitalia site in English:

http://trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html
(Note the spelling; it is Trenitalia not Treinitalia).

What trouble are you having? You might be running into the twice-yearly schedule-change ogre. Dates after mid-December have not been fully loaded into the website yet. I see that between Milan and Venice they are only showing 2 trains, both after noon, for a random date in late December. There will be a whole lot more than that.

If that is the problem you are having, just check the schedules for the same day of the week in early December or even late November. That will give you an approximation of what the schedule will be, for planning purposes. You can't buy tickets on the website anyway.

Did you enter a date no later than 11 December? New timetables will go into effect throughout much of Europe on 12 December and Trenitalia hasn't uploaded theirs yet. If you want to see complete timetables that include Regionale trains, enter a date no later than seven days from today. Trenitalia only shows fares for those trains up to seven days out.

I found the Deutsche Bahn website to be much more useful for planning trips in France and Italy than the various national railway websites (even for trips on local trains between small towns). There's a link to the English-language version of the DB website in the Favorite Links section of this site.

The new schedules for trenitalia should be out on Dec.12th so anything after that hasn't been posted yet. You can check dates earlier than that to get an idea of schedules and prices as they don't change much. Checking other sites won't help if trenitalia hasn't come out with the new schedules so just use earlier dates to get an idea. I can tell you there is usually at least one train an hour between Florence and Rome. From Milan to Florence most hours have 2 trains. This should continue with the new schedules. Don't worry too much.

Thanks for the tips. My dates started at 12/12 so I only saw two trains, neither what I wanted.

Carol,

I just had a look at the Trenitalia website, and found numerous trains every day on the routes you mentioned. For example, on the Venice-Milan route, there's a train departing at 08:58, arriving at 11:25 (time 2H:27M, reservations compulsory, second class fare €30.50). I used an arbitrary date of Nov. 11.

As the others have mentioned, the fares and schedules for your travel dates may not be on the site yet. For a good approximation, enter a date in the next month or so that's on the same day of the week you want to travel. That will provide some ideas.

Happy travels!

Wait until it gets a little closer to your travel date to check train schedules. You won't be able to reserve and purchase online from the U.S. anyway. Trains are rarely filled to capacity. You should have little problem finding a seat just by arriving a short time before departure time. Use the automated kiosks in the lobby as they are very intuitive and quick to use.
