I have Bank of America so I'm hoping to find a BNL ATM in Cinque Terre for my stay here and the rest of my trip. I know there's an ATM in Manarola (where I'm staying) but it's not BNL, so Bank of America will charge me additional fees. Any help is greatly appreciated! I was unsuccessful in finding a BNL ATM at MXP airport so currently have no cash. If there's a general BNL ATM locator website, that would be great-- but I can't read their italian website.
Ann,
Here is the website I found with locations near CT, it looks like the closest one is in La Spezia:
AG. DI LA SPEZIA » VIA VITTORIO VENETO, 89 19124, LA SPEZIA, (SP),
LIGURIA 060060
Double click on 'Trova la filiale' top right of screen under 'Entra in contatto'( green letters).
You will get a new screen where you choose 'Liguria' (drop down menu) under REGION, then
choose 'La Spezia' under PROVINCIA, then 'Monterosso or Vernazza' under COMUNE/LOCALITA
then click on the green bar with 'CERCA' (search) & you will get a map & a list of the ATM's closest to CT.
If you need cash right away, I'd suggest using the closest ATM. I can't imagine the fee will be worth more than the time it will take you to travel to La Spezia.
ann,
Unfortunately, I suspect you'll have to just use whatever Bancomats you can find, even if they're not associated with your home bank. With such small communities, there won't be the same choices one would have in larger cities. As long as your card has a Cirrus or similar affiliation, you should have no trouble getting cash.
I have the same situation with BofA, I have found BNL banks almost every where in Italy, Rome, Florence, Lucca and Naples. I don't know if we needed money when in the CT. The other thing is the only thing you are saving is $5.00 if you use BNL, they still charge 3%, so I would not run out of money for just $5.00. You should be able to find BNL in all the other larger cities.
How bad can the additional fee be -- $5? This is a case when finding a particular bank's ATM just to save a couple of bucks doesn't make much sense. If you were really interested in saving fees, you should get an account that doesn't anything or at most maybe a dollar. Don't waste valuable travel time looking for particular ATMs.
You should locate one here- www.bancomat.it/en/trova-atm You can read this as it is their English language page.
We use our B of A cards at Deutsche Bank locations in Italy without any fee and they'll give out as much money as your home bank allows. Another way to find bank branches, which will always have an ATM attached, is through Google Maps.
Echoing Frank here. Everything we do has a transaction cost associated with it. That transaction cost is obviously different for everyone. For me, spending any amount of time passing one bancomat after another to save a $5 fee would make it not worth it for me. However, we are all different.
