Help! finding a hotel in the Cinque Terre!!!

I can't seem to find anything (decently price that is) in the Cinque Terre. I know there are more rooms and B&B's, but I guess they are too small to have websites. Since we are going in mid-Sept. should I worry about making reservations? The 3 or 4 places I have already contacted through email are full, so I am worried about just showing up without a reservation. We had hoped to stay in Vernazza, but I am open to anywhere now! Thanks!

If you can arrive Sunday thru Thursday in the morning, your chances are better for finding accommodations in the CT. Weekends (Fri/Sat) the hotels and B&Bs tend to fill up. Many smaller places do not reserve via the internet. Find a phone number and start calling or get there early in the day and start looking.

Hi Jennny- I would not go without a reservation. When we were there in May we saw many people trying without success to find a place. We love Vernazza.Do you have Rick's books? We stayed in Toninno Basso's rooms at the top of the town. Rooms are air-conditioned and he has a computer in each room for you to use. Since he has only 4 rooms , he is probably full, but you could ask.

Jenny,

I have to heartily agree with Jane - DON'T go without a reservation! I was in the C.T. last September and also noticed several people desperately trying to find rooms.

If you have Rick's Italy Guidebook, there are lots of suggestions for lodgings. You might try Mar-Mar Rooms in Riomaggiore, Hotal Ca D'Andrean or La Torretta in Manarola, or some of the Hotels in Monterosso al Mare (it's the largest of the towns, so there are certainly more choices). If that doesn't work, try a net search of Hotels as you might find something that way.

Good luck! Let us know whether you find something.

Last May we stayed at Martina Callo's rooms on the square in Vernazza, but our last night was booked; so she offered the one room of her friend, Caterina. It was lovely and quiet; 2 beds, $95.00. She has a sweet website: caterinarooms.it She does not speak any English, and Martina helped us a bit. Wonderful experience. Did you try roommartina.it?

My girlfriend and I showed up in early June in Vernazza, walked right off the train station there and within 30 seconds an older lady (who barely spoke a word of English) asked if we needed a room. For 50 Euros and a view overlooking looking the square right by the small beach, we found a room. I also noticed as I was walking through the back alleys in town there that there were a few rooms available. Even if you can't find one with a good view in town, you are not spending all you time in your room anyway since Vernazza is a small, and beautiful town to spend the day wondering, and eating some amazing food.

It is always best to have a reservation, but again I showed up within the second week of June earlier in the morning and had no problem with a room.

since the CT is now so popular, you will have a hard time finding anything under 100 euros a night so you just have to live with that. I guess budget travelers day trip through the 5 towns and stay outside the area, check the book for suggestions. I started looking for reservations 3 months ago and I am not going until mid October and even then I had a hard time finding anything. so good luck!

My wife and I just spent 3 nights in the CT and stayed in Monterosso...I'd recommend a couple Rick Steves' suggestions, the Hotel Pasquale with a seaside location or the Hotel Villa Steno with a higher up location but with seaviews, just check their websites and email a request...we stayed at the Hotel Pasquale and were very happy with everything, especially the beachfront location right in the heart of everything in the old part of the city...

We stayed here last year mid-Sept. The room was excellent. On flight of stairs, right on the main street. Can't beat the price.

$$ Memo Rooms offers three newly-renovated, immaculate rooms overlooking the main street, in what feels like a miniature hotel. Enrica will meet you if you call upon arrival (Db-€65 maximum in 2007, Via Roma 15, tel. 0187-812-360, mobile 338-285-2385).

Try calling the cell phone number for Mueble Agave in Monterosso during the hours 8am to approx 4pm Italy time. It's in Rick's Italy book. They are 9 hours ahead of us, so call them between 11pm and midnight westcoast time. Hilary speaks adequate English for a reservation transaction.
