Help! Day trip from Venice tomorrow.

Hi folks,

I have another full day in Italy before I head home. I'm in Venice, and frankly… I just don't like it here. I need to call an audible and get out of here tomorrow. Would you recommend Trieste, Bologna, or Ravenna, and what would be the must-see in that city?

Thanks so much! I loved Verona, Milan, and Laje Como, so it has been a great trip so far!

Hello,
I am going to recommend Lake Garda. Enjoyed the town. We were there in the summer a few years ago. You can travel around the lake and see some of the sites. We enjoyed hiking around.
Good luck.

I've only been to Ravenna and would highly recommend it, especially for the awesome mosaics in the basilica. However, I think it's too long to travel for a day trip, over 3 hrs each way. Having done a lot of research on possible day trips from Venice my choice would probably be Padua, if I wanted someplace close with short travel time, or Trieste if I was willing to travel a bit longer (@2hs).

Easy trip from Venice to Padua, Verona, or Ferrara. Each is just about an hour or so (Padua a little less) and generally minus crowds. Combination of interesting buildings, churches, museums, good food, and pleasant ambience for walking around. Bologna is an interesting city as well and there you can have authentic ragu.

If you can get a reservation to visit the Scrovegni Chapel at such short notice, I would vote for Padova. Lots of other good sights there as well, but the Scrovegni Chapel is the do-not-miss.

I would suggest Padua too. Giotto's frescoes alone make the trip worthwhile for me. Good food, easy to navigate. As it's a university town there's plenty of things going on.

Just out of curiosity, what didn't you like about Venice?

If you can get Scrovegni chapel tickets, go to Padova. If not, I'd suggest Ravenna with its remarkable mosaics. Either way, you won't go wrong.

Padova or Ferrara, Ravenna would be first choice but it's further away. If you can't get tickets for the Scrovegni chapel in Padova, go to Ferrara.

Another vote for Padua (Padova)!
We were there in October of 2014 & we didn't get tickets for the Scrovegni Chapel in advance. We were able to get tickets for the same day, and we only had to wait for about 15 minutes, along with 4 other persons.

Enjoy!
