Help--Cold and Rain Forecast for Varenna Next Week--Need Ideas

Hi
We will be in Milan on June 13 and planned to travel to Varenna on the 14 and 15. Both days look quite cold and rainy. We travel from Milan to Venice on the 16th.

I'm thinking about changing out Varenna for another location. Any ideas for other fun places near Milan or between Milan and Venice? We are four adults and for two of them this is their first trip to Italy.

Thanks
Terri

You can get to Bologna in just a bit over an hour from Milan, and much of Bologna's very large historic district is arcaded, which would minimize your exposure to the rain. Bologna doesn't have Florence's major art museums, obviously. If you're thinking about an overnight, I should mention that Bologna can be a hard place to snag a last-minute room at an affordable rate.

I hope the weather pattern shifts and you're able to do outdoor stuff after all.

Hi Terri,

You don't mention how long you will be in Venice, but the weather is looking better there for those dates that you had for Varenna so you might want to head to Venice early (personally, I can never get enough of Venice!) Another choice might be Padua where the Village Italy tour starts. It is between the two and we enjoyed the time we spent there with the Village Italy tour. Hope this helps, I'm sure you will enjoy anyplace you choose.

Accuweather says temps around 24 C - that's pleasantly warm - and intermittant rain.

We roll with the weather and are seldom disappointed. There's always something to do and the forecast is seldom as bad as it looks. Right now I'd say the "PM Thunderstorms"forecast for Monday looks like an opportunity to seize the morning and get out early. And Tuesday there's only a 30% chance of rain for the day! Temps of 25 degrees centigrade are warm!

There are hourly trains to Milan - if you see a prediction for afternoon thunderstorms, perhaps you could spend the morning in Varenna and the afternoon exploring indoor sights in Milan, as the spirit (and weather) moves you.
