Help choosing Venice albergos

I've read RS suggestions on stays in Venice in september.
I was able to call Albergo Doni (recommended) and they quoted me 115 euros/nite for a double($around 180 US dollars/nite). I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest, my budget would be in the $200- $250. I know we probably just use the hotel to sleep, but I wonder if it is worth to spend $50 US more per nite and get something that we can have a better experience. The room a was quoted does not have a window to the canal. (only rooms with no bath have it)
Any suggestions are appreciated specially if you have stayed in those hotels.
By the way I saw these on venere site: B&B Diamante, Residenza Le Quattro Stagioni, which could be other choices.
thanks

Hi Fernando. We spent 3 nights at Hotel Al Ponte Monceigo(in RS's venice book) and would highly recommend it. Its on a side canal, and we did not have a view. didn't really care. The canals are everywhere and so accesable. This was a really well run place, with modernized rooms in a very old palazza. Nice bathroom, great bed, very high ceilings with wooden beams. The breakfast was one of the best on our 3 week trip. All kinds of morning coffee, freshly baked pasteries in their own kitchen, breads, cereals, yogurt, granola, juices. Its a bit off the beaten track. really easy to find (30 metres from the San Stae vaparetto stop). Quiter at night for sleeping etc, but walking to rialto and st marks was easy and well marked. Hotel staff offered some good recommendations on reasonably priced restaurants, and were always helpful with directions etc. The rack rate for our room was €145 but they offered a 8% cash discount with RS's book, so at €133 I found this to be excellent value in Venice.

Fernando,

We stayed at the Doni last
September (two rooms for 4 adults) and we were very happy with our choice. The rooms are really nice (some with views some without)...the location is the best for the price...just a couple of blocks from St. Marks square, and just a 150 feet from the Grand Canal (behind the Hotel Danieli)...there are great restaurants within steps of the front door and good cafes for morning coffee and rolls...(the Doni's breakfast is modest...you can do better in the neighborhood without spending a lot)...we paid 110 Euro's for both rooms...we've paid more in Venice for less room.

Thanks for the replies.
Tim: I looked at the website and the hotel looks really nice. I need to call and ask about their rates. Is the hotel close to the Plaza St Marcos on a walking distance or you need to use transportation?

Bill: You got a good deal 110 euros for 2 rooms!! When I called they told me 115 for 1 room for 2 people with bathroom. Did your's have a private bathroom?

Do you think 3 days 2 nites would be enough to appreciate Venice?
Thanks again

I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear...that was 110 Euros for each room (instead of both rooms...)..in that neighborhood, it would not be a great deal...it would be unbelievable!

We walked to St. Mark's several times. It prob took about 15-20 minutes, but that was at a leisurely pace. One thing that really surprised us about Venice was how much there was to see walking around...lots of shops/stalls, and of-course the Rialto markets. That said, the San Stae Vaparetto stop is right out the side door. we stayed 3 nights and thought it was perfect. You can see the highlights in 2, but I highly recommend taking time to feel/experience the different parts of Venice. We walked everywhere the afternoon we arrived and the next day. On our third day we bought a Vaparetto pass and hoped on and off, taking trips at different times. Let me know if I can help further.

You might want to check out Ca' Angeli as well. It's in the Rialto area, right on the Grand Canal. It looks like a real gem (and, Tripadvisor reviews support this). We haven't stayed there yet, but we will be there for 3 nights in July.

I agree Ca'angeli looks really nice.
I called Hotel Al Ponte Monceigo but they don't have availability for the days I'm planning to go.

Albergo Doni and Hotel Campiello do have rooms. I sent both an email (they asked me to) but so far only Hotel Campiello has replied with an offer of 150 euros p/nite saying that I'll get 8% discount if I pay cash. Probably a good deal (138 euros after discount) since I think Campiello is a 3 star rank on RS guide vs Doni which is 1 star and 23 euros lower in price.
Has anyone been in Hotel Campiello?

You might want to try the Pensione La Calcina. It's in the Dorsoduro section of Venice right on the Giudecca Canal. We were just there on May 5-8 and we found it comfortable, very clean, quiet and well situated for getting around. There was a Vaporetto stop a few steps down the fondamenta at Zaterre. It included breakfast (at the hotel's restaurant)which consisted of fresh breads & goodies, fresh fruit, omelets etc. It was wonderful and all the staff seemed to be happy to take care of you and help whenever asked. It was 190 Euro a night and we had a 3dr floor room overlooking the canal with a bath. It rated well on Trip Advisor too and was in RS 2007 italy book, so I would definitely check it out. We had a great stay and would most certainly go back!

We're paying 215 Euros for a 3-bedroom suite at Ca' Angeli this July.

Here's the description: Suite with three connected rooms (for five persons):non-smoking rooms with opening windows (view on the Venice roof tops, not canal view), one private bathroom with bathtub in the Suite, hair dryer, one Double Superior room with king-size bed, one Double room with twin beds and one Single room, double pillows, air conditioning system, 3 Tvs with sat channels, 3 safes, 3 direct dial phones, internet plugs and minibar (charged), at the daily rate of Euro 215,00 per Suite per night, buffet-breakfast services, tax included.10% of V.A.T. is already included.

The only (small) catch is that Ca' Angeli only accepts cash. It is a perfect setup for our family of 2 adults and 3 kids.

We just got back from five nights at Pensione Guerrato in Venice, on the non-San Marco side of the Rialto Bridge (vaporetto stop is Rialto Mercato and no steps to haul your bags over). We paid 130 euros a night (cash) for a beautiful room (#301) double bed (and a twin daybed) with a bathroom (huge shower by Italian standards), A/C(a must in Venice), and a good breakfast. It overlooks a great piazza (with a little glimpse of the water in the Grand Canal) and the location is really excellent for almost anywhere. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. It's a corner room with two windows, one on each side. They book up pretty quickly. http://www.pensioneguerrato.it/

I can't praise them highly enough.
