I have just started my research for our trip to Italy and looking for pros/cons on two hotels. Looking for easier access from water taxi. We will be taking train to Venice from Salzburg. We have looked at Hotel Al Codega versus Hotel Dona Palace. Or any other recommendations appreciated.
We love Hotel Ai Mori d'Oriente, in the Cannaregio area, all quiet back canals, no crowds. The hotel has a water taxi dock, an elevator, great breakfast, and wonderful staff. Afternoon happy hours on the quiet canal are fun. Book directly for the best price, but read reviews on booking.com.
The hotel is a ten minute walk to a vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal, and about a fifteen minute walk to the train station. We are returning next spring. Staying away from the San Marco area allows one a completely different experience in Venice. Have a great trip.
Count us in as fans of Al Ponte Mocenigo. It has its own water door, and is a short, easy walk from the San Stae vaporetto stop, for those times you don't need the water taxi.
The staff is fantastic, the breakfast is good, and the rooms are quite nice. There are also good restaurants nearby.
Here's a review I posted after our recent stay this past summer: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy-reviews/hotel-al-ponte-mocenigo-a-great-place-to-stay-in-venice
We stayed at Aqua Palace Hotel and it also has a private water taxi dock/ door for guests. Loved the hotel, the location, and room.
Check out Hotel Ala - inbetween the Accademia Bridge and San Marco. 50 steps from the Giglio vaporetto stop and yes, they have an entrance from a water taxi. Amazing breakfast buffet!
We also stayed at Ponte Mocinego. It was a lovely place very close to the vaparetto stop with a water door and excellent breakfast. Just make sure they do not give you a room in the annex which will be up a flight of stairs and not in the main hotel. This is where they put us for one night. I have a leg brace and the stairs were not good. The rooms in the main building are spacious and lovely.
