My husband and I will be in italy may 9 - may 23 and he is a soccer nut. We'd love to take in a game somewhere but I don' t know which city is best of the ones we will be in, or if I need to/ should buy tickets in advance, etc.. Our itinerary is venice, cinque terre, siena/ florence/ orvieto, rome. Cash-wise we don't have a ton to spend, maybe €80 tops for 2 tiX. Advice from anybody in the know?? Thanks!
Yes, it's considered the Tuscan derby so attendance would be high. Just remember you can no longer walk up and buy tickets at the stadium on the day of the game, your ticket must have your name on it.
The season ends may 15th. Of all the places you're visiting, the easiest places to see a match would be both Siena and Florence.
On May 9, Fiorentina (of Florence) hosts Siena. It should be easy to get tickets to this match as both teams have had a poor season:)
On May 15 Siena hosts Inter Milan. This will probably be hard to get tickets to. Inter is currently tied for first place, and this match may very well decide if they get the championship trophy.
You shouldn't have a problem getting tickets for around 80 euros. In years past I've simply purchased tickets at the stadium box office on the day of the match. But recently other posters have reported that it's not possible to do that anymore. Instead tickets must be purchased at retail outlets scattered throughout the city. Perhaps the hotels or some locals can give you more details.

Selected matches can sometime be purchased on-line.
Michael, just curious: would Florence v Siena be considered something of a 'derby game'? Especially considering the historical rivalry between the two cities?
Wende,
We had to bring our passport with us, to show as id to purchase the tickets. Hope you can make it to a game somewhere, it is lots of fun.
Thanks Michael and the rest. Actually we arrive in Siena the 15th so the Inter Milan game just might work. Too bad in a way, because the "derby" sounds like (cheaper) fun.
