Heating pads

How easy would it be to find a heating pad in Venice once I arrive there. Where would I go to purchase one. From what I am reading it's not a great idea to bring one over from Canada or the US and use an adaptor as it will burn out quickly. Any advice would be helpful thank you

Probably someone here will have the answer. If not, I'd try emailing your hotel. Probably best to Google for a translation of the term (and cross your fingers). I'd hope to avoid purchasing at a farmacia, where the price may be higher than elsewhere.

The quest for a heating pad in a foreign country would actually be fun if it didn't take time away from sightseeing in one of the world's great cities. I had a similar project in Spain last year: I needed shoelaces. That was much easier, because I could just point to the laces on the shoes I was wearing; no possibility of confusion about exactly what I wanted. Aah, but actually finding the shoelaces was a different matter. It turned out that shoelaces are not sold at Spanish shoe stores; they are sold at Spanish shoe-repair shops. Naturally, a few days after I purchased the laces in San Sebastian--which took at least an hour--I was wandering around the small town of Olite and saw guess what in the window of a small general store.

I took Thermacare pads which worked wonderfully on my lower back (gives up to 16 hours heat) and neck. Got some strange looks from the TSA people as they scanned my luggage, but overall, they worked great. You can just throw them away after you use them. Take up very little space in the suitcase also-don't open the packet until you get ready to use them-activated by air. A little expensive, but when you look at the whole picture, it pales in comparison with what the trip cost.
