Heart of Italy March 2018 - weather?

We're excited to travel on our first RS Tour and plan to do the 9 day Heart of Italy (Rome, Tuscany, Florence). Due to other family constraints we have reserved the March 18 itinerary but I'm concerned about weather. Looking at the RS site info and doing some research it seems like it will be in the 50's. But depending on how damp or overcast it might be 50 can either be fine, or unpleasant. Any experience or recommendations?

We have traveled in Italy several times in March. Be prepared for rain, but you'll find that sunny days can be very warm and pleasant. As folks have said many before, take layers. I take a warm lightweight sweater (merlino wool that never wrinkles) plus a longer waterproof shell, plus a small travel umbrella, and have never been uncomfortable. There is just so much to see and do, the weather is a small part of each day.

I went in mid-March a couple of years ago and we only had one really rainy day and that happened to be at Vatican City so we were indoors anyway and just took a taxi instead of walking there. I wore a light jacket most days and was comfortable. You are escaping the wilting summer heat in Rome, a huge plus in my view. Also, crowds will be lighter unless Easter is early. In Florence we walked right into the Accademia without a reservation. And artichokes will be in season. There are many benefits to travel in early spring. Have fun!
