Heart of Italy in Spring

Hi, First time traveler to Italy and I'm wondering if spring is a good time to go, end of April through early May or is it better weather-wise later into May? We could be in Cinque Terre May 1 & 2, Italian's Labor Day Holiday, if we begin our tour April 27. Thanks, Dianne

I always travel to Italy during "shoulder season"....March or April. Weather is mild and there aren't as many tourists.

My 4 trips to Italy have always been in April or May. We've had rainy days a few times, but mainly sunny skies and temperatures in the 70's. Great weather for traveling IMO.

Hi. See if you can watch The Enchanted April for some inspiration regarding that time of year near the CT. Should be beautiful.

My first RS tour was this one and we went mid-May after one of our group had finished his finals. It was a really nice time altho Rome was pretty hot to me. I don't tolerate heat very well being from N. Idaho!

We did have a very rainy day in Florence, so make sure you plan on a waterproof (not water resistant) jacket. Others in the group used umbrellas but I prefer a jacket.

This is an excellent tour! I hope you will plan to get to Rome a couple of days early.

Thanks so much for the added posts! Glad to hear the good reviews about the tour and April/May weather. I'll keep my eye out for The Enchanted April, and the lightweight waterproof jacket is a great idea!
