Can anyone recommend a good travel medical insurance company for a trip to Italy? Thanks
Different people and different trips have different needs for travel insurance. Go to the website below and compare. Faye, Generali, Allianz, AIG, Travelex, etc are highly rated. I’ve used only Allianz and AIG, but I didn’t have to file claims so I had no experience of actual having to use the coverage. Generali (an Italian insurance giant), and Allianz (a German based giant) are big in Italy, and are very popular with Italians to cover private health services outside the public NHS. Many Italians use private doctors and clinics as often the waits with the NHS for routine services (like specialists and diagnostic) are too long.
Too many variables and policies differ from state to state.
Start by using an online marketplace like Squaremouth or Insure My Trip. They will show policies available to you based on age and residence. You can compare coverage and rates.
A few things to consider
- do you want primary or secondary insurance
- do you need a Pre-existing Conditions Waiver
- do you want a policy that does not require insuring all nonrefundable expenses
We use IMG now because the trip cancellation portion of the policy treats a sick pet at home as a family member.
We had to come home early once when our dog became very ill. Our policy at the time didn’t cover our early return costs.
