We booked an underground tour for today, 23, March 2011 at 9:40am. We went and enjoyed! Be aware, if you bought a ROMAPASS, it DOES WORK at the same locations a multi ticket works!!!! OUR GUIDE FROM THE COLLOSEUM WAS TELLING PPL THAT THE ROMA PASS WILL NOT WORK FOR THOSE TWO SITES ALONG WITH THE COLLOSEUM!!! DO NOT LISTEN TO THE GUIDES ON THIS SUBJECT!!!
Sigh. This is what gives travel in Italy a bad name. It only takes a few bad actors. Thanks for the , Bethanne. This just reinforces that we need to do our research before traveling. Glad you're having a good time, though!
Bethanne, I'd be curious to know whether your "Guide from the Colosseum" was an "official" Guide working within the Colosseum, or one of the "freelancers" that badger tourists outside advertising "English language tours"? I believe the Roma Pass provides free admission to the first two sites visited, and then discounted admission to the others within a three-day window. If the Underground tour was one of the first two sites you visited, then it should be covered by the Pass. Cheers!
I think this refers to how the Roma Pass combines Colisseum/Forum/Palatine into one multi-ticket, in essence considering them all one site. Here's what the official Roma Pass site says: Colosseo/ Palatino/Foro Romano
This archaeological area is the heart of the ancient city. Here you may admire an impressive stratification of historical and artistic memories testifying to the life and development of ancient Rome. At the Coliseum a reserved turnstile is available for RomaPass holders to get direct access to the monument. CUMULATIVE TICKET: (Anfiteatro Flavio) Colosseo + Palatino + Foro Romano.
Bethanne, can you clarify your post. Do you mean that the RomaPass can be used to enter the Colosseum with a separate ticket and booking for viewing the underground and third level? Leslie
Ken, I know that Bethanne booked her underground tour directly with the Colosseum, so I assume it was an official guide. The Roma Pass does cover the 1st two sites, but if one of those sites is the Colosseum, Forum or Palatine Hill then you get into all 3, just like the combo ticket. For example, you could use it for the combo ticket and then the Borghese Gallery, or vice versa. Either way, good info Bethanne. Thanks!
Leslie, you must pay for entry to the colosseum, either buy a ticket or use the romapass and then pay separately for the underground tour. The romapass and the combo entry ticket for colosseum just gets you inside and neither include the tour. Donna
Perhaps the guide was referring specifically to the Underground Tours???
Bethanne I appreciate your enthusiasm, I'm glad that this trip is working out for you - except a bit the guides. Any chance you could lay off the shouting a bit, though? Thanks
