Heading to Portofino in two weeks

Arriving in Milan, which we have already visited. Heading straight to Santa Margherita (close to Portofino) . Would like to visit Cinque Terre and Portofino while there for 5 days. Looking for any recommendations you all might have for things to see and places to go. Best why to visit Cinque Terre? Boat, train or car? Heading to Lake Como after here. We have all of Rick's books. Looking for forum insight.

Trips to this area to me are mostly about about r&r, hiking, enjoying views. Of course there are things to see as it’s Italy, but you need to give us something to go on.
I spent my four days there hiking through Portofino park, which you can crisscross by ferry, foot, and bus, accessing Portofino, Camogli, and SML. I think there is a cable car in Rapallo that sounds fun.

I’ll be there about the same time you are. But I’m staying 3 nights in Monterosso al Mare and 2 nights in Santa Margherita Ligure. To me CT was a priority, and to see CT, I think it’s better to be in CT than to be an hour away from CT. My plan is to see CT by train, ferry (or boat tour) and some hiking.

From Santa Margarita, an easy 3 mile walk along the water to Portofino. Only the last 20 mins is a hill to climb over but it is paved so sneakers fine.

Then in Portofino , walk up to the lighthouse, about a 45 minute walk, uphill on a paved path

We brought our lunch because everything in Portofino is really expensive, but of course, ended up getting gelato as you must do every day in Italy!

and it’s fun to sit in the little harbor on a bench and watch people

Then we took the bus back to Santa Margarita
