I don't know much about Lake Como and have been reading several guide books but I wanted to see if anyone had a great place to stay or "must - see and do" on this trip?

Hi Josh. I agree with Steve...Albergo Milano in Varenna is fantastic. We stayed in a lakefront room with a balcony & the views were amazing. The rate included a nice breakfast and the hotel was very comfortable and clean. We really enjoyed this hotel. We loved coming back to our room in the late afternoon and sitting on the balcony enjoying the views.
Varenna was my favorite of the mid-lake towns and I'm glad we stayed there as opposed to Bellagio, Menaggio, etc. Varenna is very quaint and relaxing. I liked the lakefront promenade on Varenna & it was handy that the train stops in Varenna whereas if you stay in Menaggio or Bellagio, you'd have to get off the train in Varenna & then catch a ferry to the other towns; I didn't want to "schlep" our luggage on and off the ferries & worry about catching an early enough ferry the morning of our departure in order to get back to Varenna & then get to Milan.
It was suggested to us prior to our trip last year to hike up to the cemetery in Varenna for the fantastic views. We didn't have enough time to do this but you might check it out if you're into photography & great views. Have a great trip! I'm so jealous.
