Headed from Florence to Sorrento---suggestions on easiest/fastest way??

Best way to do this? I know there's a train to Rome, and you need to switch trains to Naples, then I think a different train, bus or boat to Sorrento?
Someone here responded about a fast train from Florence to Salerno (further down on the Amalfi Coast) with stops on the way---but I can't find her response now. Does anyone know where along the way the train stops since going from Salerno to Sorrento would be tricky.
Also, best website to check the trains in Italy? I've googled a bit but am already confused/overwhelmed with the options. Also, it is hard to plug in your city when you try to search for tickets/schedules......they list all these different stations for each city and it's hard to decipher their system. Should I use trenitalia? Is their a way to just look at the schedules directly?

Wow, Christi, that's quite a good deal on that Sorrento Shuttle, as long as it meets your specifications re: schedule. We paid quite a bit more than that a couple months ago for a private car, but the driver was right there waiting for us when we got off the train at Naples.

There is one an hour - for that price I can wait an hr at most - I am certain I can find a beverage somewhere to enjoy whilst waiting!

If you can afford it, I suggest hiring a private driver. Our Sorrento hotel handled the arrangements. We had a party of four, though, so we could split the cost. I think it was about €124 in 2014. The shuttle option looks good, too. Having a ride straight to the hotel is ideal. I would avoid the circumvesuviano train. Cheaper yes, but it stops multiple times, not comfortable, and not much room for luggage. Sorrento is beautiful, enjoy!

We all have our preferences on getting to Sorrento - that's also our common goal! Sorrento is a magnificent place to relax, shop, eat, shop, get to other places, shop, eat. You get the point. Several years ago I decided to take the boat instead of the train. Take a taxi from the train station right to the dock. The problem is the boat schedule - not too many opportunities. But, there are places to walk, even with luggage, relax and find something cool to drink. The next year I had friends with me who were all excited about going to Sorrento. We took the boat. This was the comment I got from them: 'What a nice idea to start the vacation before getting to the vacation spot!' Right, the boat trip is now a great start to the vacation - amazing views, comfortable, and fun.

I did make the mistake a couple years later of taking the train instead. Got pickpocketed. What a not nice start to the vacation. I'll stick with the boat!

Thanks for the info on the boat. I think we'll use that to travel to Naples for the day while we are there - that way we will not be loaded with bags and such.
