Having trouble finding open hotels in December

Looking to stay in a quaint village in Umbria/Tuscany from Dec 22-27. Any help would be appreciated. also, should we worry about snow or bad weather?? We will have a car.

We spent Christmas in Tuscany (Florence, Siena, and traveling, just afterward, from Siena south to Rome by bus) and weather was not a hindrance in the least. Temps ranged from 38 to 50 degrees FT, beautiful sun most days (light rain one day)...but, of course, short days in terms of light. Obviously weather can change from year to year, but it sure won't be Chicago or even Renton, Washington, Jackie. One more thing: because of shorter hours, I would make sure the home base of a quaint village isn't so closed down that there's nothing to do. That's why we used Florence and Siena as our bases.

Many places close down for Chritmas & Catholic holidays. Opt for a larger town like Siena, Perugia or stay in Florence and bus to villages in Tuscany.
