Having trouble finding apartment to rent in Venice

What are some LEGIT websites to use to rent an apartment in Venice? I booked the Rome portion of our trip with Cross-Pollinate (excellent service!!) and have been trying to use VRBO for Venice, but am not having much luck finding anything available. What are other websites that are good? We definitely want an apartment because it will be my husband and I, and my 74-year-old mother, and we plan to shop locally for breakfast in the room as well as some dinners in. We prefer central but don't mind residential over big tourist areas, wifi, preferably a washing machine, and for my mother, air conditioning. Stairs aren't a concern, surprisingly! Any help with other websites or specific apartments where you've stayed will be much appreciated!!

You can try Venice Rentals, they have apartments in several areas of Venice with kitchens and such. The owners are friends of mine, speak English and are wonderful people.

We have used cross-pollinate.com with great success in Venice and also other places in Italy. We stayed at Apartamento Rachelle (sp?) and it was perfect for our use. Quiet, dark, great bath, small kitchen, right down the walk from a vaporetto stop. They have other larger apartments, I believe, the above was just right for the 2 of us. We have never had any problem with the website or admins at all.

Thanks everyone! I had already booked our Rome portion with Cross-Pollinate so I found something in Venice too with them. Had to give up wish for washing machine for close proximity, but oh well, there are sinks and laundromats in Italy, right? :-) I have been VERY impressed with Cross-Pollinate, namely because they don't require you to pay a 40% deposit or wire money. The deposit I paid was by credit card. NW I just hope I chose good locations! :)

Argh - the search continues. The owners of the apartment in Venice listed on Cross-Pollinate hadn't updated their calendar and while it showed the apartment as available, let me book it and pay the deposit, I couldn't get it because it had already been reserved. So...here we go again. Trying AirBnB but I'm finding the same thing - calendars aren't updated and so while I think it may be available, it isn't. Maybe they just don't want us in their apartments?? :)
