having half a day in rome from airport

I am landing in rome at 10am, by the time i check into my hostel it will be around midday.
what would be a good way of spending the day.
i was thinking to get my bearings for the next couple of days i spend there that doing the heart of rome walk/audiobook from rick steves could be a good idea?

what have others done providing not too jetlagged

I went to my hotel which agreed to hold my luggage until I could check in. If that's an option, it makes walking around Rome a lot less stressful!

Hope you have a great time!

I recommend to do things outdoor. See the Colosseum, the Forum, the famous Piazzas and fountains, the parks. But don't go indoor (like museums or cathedrals).
Landing in the morning is hardest, at least for me, because you are tired and would like to go to bed, but it's not yet time in the local timezone.
To stay awake, your body needs sunlight. Sunlight is what regulates our body clock. Sunlight signals to your body it's time to stay awake. You go indoor in the dark, and you'll have a hard time keeping your eyes open.

Doing the heart of RS Rome walk / audiobook is a very good idea. It will give you the "lay of the land" and being out of doors in the sun and fresh air will be great if you have any jet lag.
