Having difficulty booking Rome

Need accommodation recs for Rome. Prefer old Rome area: B&B's, Boutiques, Apts, Hotels; respectively. Traveling from June 4-10.

Thus far all my RS leads and others have failed to match up.

Hopeful budget 150-200 euro/night, a little more for extreme value. Traveling by train.

Location is important, walkable to historic places and a place large enough to have two beds that are not right next to each other; for instance, a large double with pullout couch

Many thanks

Venere.com or booking.com can show available units. I used venere for Italy trip in 2012 and booking for two trips to France, Germany and Austria in 2013-2015.

Seems like these booking sites have been a big change since the last trip we took in 2008, when I went to book all our hotels for May about eight weeks ago, two of my location I had to use Bookings.com to get rooms. I was really discouraged running into dead ends especially with the Rick Steve's recommendation. That sound like a good budget for a good hotel room in Rome. When you go on bookings.com there will probably more hotels than you will know how to pick from.

FWIW, I usually line up my Italy lodgings about six months in advance. No problems.

You want a pullout couch because...? Are you 3-4 adults or 2 adults with kids?

I just did a quick little search on Booking.com for your dates and there are lots of places for a group of 4 adults. You can use the "Guests" box to specify the number of adults and kids.

When you get your basic results, you can filter them using the list of categories down the left side of the screen in a number of ways. When you click on the category, you can see all the options with how many lodgings are listed under them. I think you will be surprised at the number of listings well within your price range. Many are apartments, our favorite choice for 5 or more nights. More room and more flexibility.

I always ignore the stars and go for the 8+ under Review score. Then I sort them by review score although there are many other ways to do it.

I have never made reservations through Booking.com. I have only used it to identify places to stay and then contacted the place directly. I have lost faith in Trip Advisor reviews, but they do often have links to the lodging which Booking.com does not. If TA doesn't have one, I just Google it. Most places will come up in English (they know where you are), but if they don't, there will usually be a little EN or English or British or US or combo flag to click on for English.

If you are staying for several nights, you might find an apartment will suit you better. You can filter on booking sites by type of accommodation. (Rooms in the Centro Storico hotels tend to be on the small side.)
