Haven't board and already hit a snag

Hi

This trip is going to force me to be flexible and realize that if u plan things out, something will come up to shake up your schedule.

Today, I landed in NY and turned on my phone, British Airways is contacting me through email and text to contact them. They had to switch aircrafts so the flight from JFK to Heathrow is limited in seats. (I say they overbooked it). I was asked to move my flight, so they decided to book me on an American Airlines flight 3 hrs earlier than original flight but straight to Rome and arrive at 7 am. No change fees.

The best part is that I was able to move my connecting flight into SUF 5 hrs earlier so I land there 2 PM instead of 8 PM.

In a way it worked out well because the hotel shuttle can get me from station free and I can be there when it is daylight. Downside is that it is a 9 hr flight. Thank God for meds.

I am more nervous about the longer flight but at least it is nonstop. Picked a aisle seat so I can get up.

I'm having a hard time understanding this post. Not clear what the change is and what your final destination is. How could a non-stop flight be "longer"? The post reads decidedly like a net positive, not a snag.

Well thefer,

At least it worked out in your favor without too much hassle. The upside is that you'll arrive in Rome much earlier!

I re-read your post - So, when you arrive in Rome, you will connect to SUF (Calbria, Sicily) and the hotel shuttle will pick you up and drive to your hotel while still daylight. Is that correct?

Hi

Tired. I guess I didn't make myself clear.

Original flight was 7.5 hrs to London, an hr layover and 3 more hours to Rome. Thus 11.5 hrs total. Getting into Rome at 12 PM.

New flight is nonstop from JFK to Rome in about 8.5 hrs. I arrive in Rome at 7 am. Which allows me to get on an earlier flight to SUF and be in timeshare by 4 PM vs 9-10 pm

Does this help

British Airways had a cancellation on the JFK-LHR route yesterday, so were probably shuffling people and planes round.

Isn't that a good thing as opposed to a snag? A < 9 hour non-stop flight is pretty desirable (IHMO I would try to sleep and stay hydrated instead using meds which will likely screw you up even more..you need to keep jet lag as manageable as possible). And it's much better to land somewhere in daylight than at dusk.

Yes. Very good thing. I have anxiety issues so I tend to climb the walls after 4 hrs. I took meds for my overnight flight to NY. Slept on plane and a couple hrs in my room but did way better this time compared to when I visited NY in October where I went 30 hrs without sleeping.

I was hoping for that break in London where I can stretch my things but I am glad it worked out this way. I looked at this flight when I first booked this trip and it was more expensive for nonstop. Funny how things work out

I feel like this is a win-win, or it surely would be for me. I always take a 9+hr flight from Denver to anyplace in Europe or the UK (usually London or Munich) to make a connection and as long as I don't have layovers in between here and UK/Europe, I am happy. I am not the most confident of fliers (terrifies me, no matter how many times I do it) but once I'm in the air and on my way, I usually feel like there's nothing I can do anyway so do my best to relax. I, too, often am taken aback by a sudden and unexpected change in my plans but I think you will come to realize this is actually overall a good change. Aisle seats are the best (well, next to Business or First Class....). No snag here that I can see.

You were very lucky to get a better flight. I'm glad ultimately you appreciated it, and were able to handle it. Wish we all could be so lucky. Enjoy your trip!

Hi

I do appreciate it now but at first I didn't take to the change well. After hearing what everyone is posting, it worked in my favor.

Today, British Airways gate was next to Alaska airlines and it was mobbed. I figure flights were canceled yesterday from the weather.

Thanks

It sounds much better to me, not a snag rather a perk! You most likely won’t notice the extra hours. Nine hours is not long in international travel.

Things have a way of working out in the end. Well, I understand how at first it seemed like a snag but eventually working out in your favor. That's why I always keep an open mind when traveling and not stress so much about unexpected changes in the original plan. Just be open and flexible, and you will definitely have a great time!

Wow, Frank actually has a town in Colorado named after him (see the information on one of the posters on this thread).
