We flew FCO to IAD on United out of Terminal 3 on Monday, April 20, if that is recent enough. Our flight was at 10:20am…we arrived at the airport at @7:30am.
Checking in, clearing security, EES was quite easy and efficient…it was just a very long way to our gate and a lot of walking that took some time. I believe we had less than an hour at our gate before boarding began at 9:30am.
I few out of FCO this past Monday morning. 08:25. Security took less than 5 minutes. I didnt have to do EES, so dont know about that.
We flew out on Monday afternoon, and got there 3 hours ahead. It took a bit longer than before, we had to check in with our airline, which I haven't had to do before as we have carry-ons. They fast tracked us through security, so can't speak to that, lines did not look too long. The EES process was slow, but there were not that many people in front of us, but the machines were very slow. I wish I had timed it, but it was a few minutes per person. WE had time for a lunch before our flight with the 3 hours
We flew FCO to DTW yesterday. Our flight was at 9:00 am. We got to the airport about 6:15. The airport staff is very efficient. We had plenty of time to check our bags, TSA, passport check and have a coffee with time to spare.
Thanks for the replies! We flew FCO-ORD on May 1. We arrived at the airport about 6:15 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. flight on AA. It was a bit chaotic because they were needing to rebook quite a few folks due to cancellations the previous day. Security was easy. They were still working on implementing the new EES and randomly assigning people to a kiosk or a passport control officer. Lucky us, we got a new person who had no idea what he was doing. Even so, we were through in time to go to a lounge for awhile. If you are on an AA flight you will be bussed to a different terminal for boarding. That went pretty smoothly.
Just flying out today (5/4). Entire process from check in counter to seated in terminal was 25 minutes.
EES was a bit hit or miss. An attendant either sent you to a passport officer or to a machine. There were approximately 20 machines and they were using 4 of them. I really wanted to use the machine to exit since I had used it to enter, but I was directed to an officer. Everyone knows you follow directions at passport control😀.
The officer spent 10 seconds looking at my passport and then motioned me through. I can only assume they are getting their real exit data from the airlines(?).
Just returned (yesterday) from Rome. Fiumincino was generally easy, but EES was a nightmare. The entire system failed and we were moved 3x times to different Kiosks to scan our passports, fingers them a photo image. My partner was trapped in front of me and we were unable to move forward for about 10 minutes because the systmen froze or went offline. That simple process added at least 30 minutes to get through their customs.
We planned an arrival of 3 hours before our flight to drop off the car rental, walk through the airport, get through security and had enough time to have a couple glasses of wine before boarding.
I have an EU passport. I couldn't even find the line for EU passports today (this morning). There must've been hundreds of people in line at passport control to leave Rome. Luckily once I found the EU area it was a few minutes.
