Have you ordered from Amazon.it while IN Italy?

Hi again, I probably won't need it but I just realized that we will be sitting in one place in the countryside in Italy for awhile and if we wanted something we couldn't find locally, we could order it from Amazon.it and have it delivered. Has anyone tried that? Is it as reliable as ordering from them here? There are some things I might want to have there that I don't want to pack and carry but may not find without spending a lot of time looking. Thanks in advance!

My experience in Italy is that Amazon will not deliver there.

Amazon.it will deliver in Italy, but I order books from iBooks on my iPad - not as wide an assortment to choose from, but enough, and I don't have to carry books around.

Zoe, I have tried to arrange this many times- without any luck - what is your technique?

Amazon.it will and does deliver in Italy. So does Amazon.co.uk - which, if you need things in English is probably the better way to go. But - make sure you have a place where you get regular mail, not any off the track, off the beaten path place, etc. I would be concerned about countryside delivery unless the owner can assure you they have no problems getting regular mail deliveries. I was living in Florence for 8 years and things from Amazon UK and IT - it does work, just maybe not as reliably as it does in the US (having said that, my last 2 Amazon orders in NJ got returned to sender as undeliverable!).

Well I personally can't imagine ANYTHING that I would need to order while on vacation. You know, Europe has just about everything you could ever need.

Thank you Anthony, your reply is very helpful! I'll take a look at Amazon.uk, too. Are they any faster/slower than Amazon.it, on an average? (Regarding your experience in New Jersey, was it with a carrier you never heard of? We order from Amazon weekly here and that's the only time we have screw-ups.)
Thanks again for your help.

Lori, the Amazon shops of EU (.uk, .de, .fr, .it, .es) have many integrated systems and warehouses, despite the different websites and interfaces and prices (sometimes). I'm currently living in the Netherlands, and I routinely order from Amazon UK or Amazon Deutschland and they deliver here normally. Often with no fess. Often the products I buy from Amazon UK are sourced from a warehouse in Austria and delivered here in The Netherlands... Now, the caveats: sometimes, using the same credit card as you use on the Amazon (USA) will raise a flag on their system and reject your transaction, so it is best just to use another CC (if possible) altogether. Be also sure not to mix your address (matching the CC) with the delivery address. Online products (movies, music, Kindle books) are subject to address restrictions and are an entirely different animal - buy your kindle downloads from your Amazon USA account.

Thank you Andre, all excellent info. That's interesting, that they share common warehouses and I guess it makes total sense. And I would never have thought about not using my usual card, thanks! And I'll watch the addresses. I did read before that people have problems with Amazon.it refusing to sell Kindle products to American computers. I think I've already bought every travel guidebook possible for mine. ;-)
