Have you had experience with EW Discover (Eurowing)

On April 21 we flew from Tampa, FL to Florence. We booked with Lufthansa but were switched to EW Discover (a Lufthansa partner) from Tampa to Frankfurt. In Frankfurt, when checking in at the gate to board our ongoing flight to Florence, our boarding passes were rejected and we were told that we had been rebooked on Austrian Air to Vienna and then on another Austrian Air flight to Florence. We were, to say the least, shocked. (I want to use stronger language but that would violate the rules of this Forum!) We had no idea that the boarding passes we were issued in Tampa for the Frankfurt to Florence flight would not be valid. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I will be loathe to book international flights with Lufthansa in the future.

BTW they also did not ask for our CDC cards before boarding, nor the PLF, and did not utilize our Global Re-entry number so that we were not TSA Preapproved.

I’ve heard some stories about the new ‘Eurowings Discover’ brand regularly switching/canceling/rearranging flights. That, matched with the general indifference that the LH Group carriers are becoming known for, and I steer clear of them all.

It bugs me no end when a major-carrier ticket gets switched to a secondary carrier (what I call a "commuter airline"). I prefer to fly on planes piloted by more experienced pilots. The airlines don't consider that type of change something they need to notify you about. The only way you'll pick up on it is if you check your booking online. It happened to me recently with an SAS segment being switched to SAS Connect.

It is not that we did not check in advance. We knew that we had been moved to EW Discover. But the change in the flight itinerary after landing in Frankfurt, happened after we were on our way. They actually provided us in Tampa with boarding passes from Frankfurt to Florence on Air Italia but when we arrived in Frankfurt, our flight had been changed to Austria Air to Vienna!

Thank you Gail but no the plane did not have a mechanical issue. We were in line boarding when our passes were rejected and asked to step aside while the boarding process continued.
