have 7-10 days, where to go?

Hello, In July 2011 I am scheduled to photograph a wedding near Naples, Italy. I'm going to take this opportunity to take a 7-10 day vacation with the family (two of us and the three children...and the mother-in-law). So the big question is where? We're hoping to avoid high hotel costs by booking a villa for a week...which means we need to be central to some of the must see places. We're leaning towards Tuscany..but also open to other ideas. Can't wait to hear some suggestions.

You'll probably get more helpful suggestions if you include how much you were prepared to spend on lodging in euros. Good luck.

We would like to stay around $1000-$1200 for the week for housing.

look at farmhouses in the Castellina area, you will come in at or below your budget

Tuscany would be a good base - with a car you can head up to Florence, visit all around Tuscany, go to Perugia, Assisi and down to Rome. As for "villas" - an entire villa generally runs higher than your budget, considering it is July and thus high season. They are also generally perfect for groups from 12 up to 30 people, depending on the size of the villa. The best bet is to start looking at apartments within villas or farmhouses where each will have their own kitchen, bathroom(s) and anywhere from 2 to 4 or more bedrooms, depending on your needs. You don't give the kids ages so not sure whether you'd need 3 or 4 bedrooms. Take a look at this page for example: http://www.tuscanyaccommodation.com/tuscany-farmhouses/ just to start getting an idea of what is out there. Above, Joe is recommending Castellina which is in Chianti a bit to the north of Siena.

Thanks for the input...I think we've settled in on the Tuscany area...now to find a house/apartment for the week!
